You would blow 50%-100%+ of your $800 budget on a receiver that could support this many Atmos channels, plus then you need all the speakers. Running wires into your ceiling for a "legit" Atmos setup is also a serious PITA, and in general, a massive HT setup just doesn't pass the WAF.

Sound bars have come a long way vs. the models that existed 10 years ago.

Don't think you'll see better than this without bundling. Have the 990B and continued impressed with it even 12+ months later. Have tried Sony HTA9, Ambeo, KEF LS50II and others. None have the entire package, ease of use, and truly immersive around, especially at this price!

samsung + epp is the worst shopping experience ever. I'm suddenly getting the error that they can't validate my EPP discount and to login with the correct account. Did they change something recently to require you use the same email as your company email?

Has samsung changed something with EPP? Do you have to use id.me only? I have used as recently as March, workingadvantage.com to purchase using EPP. I login and see the $800 price, but during checkout it says it cannot verify my discount and to login with the account associated with the discount program.

I've been told to:
1) Create an account using my work email
2) Create an id.me account (I'm not gov/first responder/edu)
3) Create a 3rd account and re-confirm EPP membership
4) offered a 10% discount for $1450.

Is anyone else using workingadvantage.com to link throught o samsung? Does anyone know how to 'disassociate' their account and re-associate it? Samsung support is absolutely incompetent.

While I do agree with everything you said, I'm still frustrated with the approach sound bar companies are taking with subwoofer designs. I understand they need to develop smaller woofers for mass audiences, but I would really like to see larger woofer options. I would gladly pay extra for a 12'' sealed/ported woofer, or even 15" in some cases, but at least give us the option to choose.

99% of all the sound bar products out there are meant for small, enclosed rooms. These 6-8" woofers will never fill a larger, open room with meaningful bass, and no amount of "technology" will overcome the sound dynamics/limitations of small woofers. Unfortunately, this is why many of us still rely on a dedicated system.

Some JBL soundbars comes with 12" downfiring subwoofers and may be a couple of other brands under the Harmon Kardon umbrella

You can get it for $650 as well if you bundle it with a TV. Select a TV and add to cart, website will offer to add one of the soundbars where Q990c will be listed as $650. You can then later choose to return the TV.

I actually purchased the q900c and the SWA-9500s rear speakers. The sound/bass is definitely better than my older soundbar. However, the 9500s rear speakers sound weak and not so immersive, even when playing movies like Top Gun Maverick. I've gone on Smart Things and boosted the rear channel volume to max, but little difference. I know the reviews say that all rear speakers are to complement surround sound, not make everything louder.

Do those of you who bought the q990c feel your rear speakers are weak as well?

Anyone know the definitive return policy for Samsung.com purchases that are picked up at a BestBuy?
  • From Samsung.com, orders picked up at BB are subject to BB's 15 day return policy. I talked to their CS, and they said to check with BB
  • From BestBuy.com, "If an alternative return policy applies to your return because of the product category, payment method or terms, you will be asked to show email confirmation of the applicable return policy. In cases where an extended partner return policy applies, Best Buy will honor that policy.", which implies that the Samsung.com offer around trying this soundbar for 100 days will be honored. CS asked to check with Samsung.
