Hello,

I am looking at the Costco T-Mobile deal to switch my 3 lines from Verizon. What is the cheapest phone I can purchase online to get the full $1000 trade-in credit? I have iPhone 13s currently but would like to keep those for the kids.

Thanks

Not worth it. These bill credits are essentially 3 year contracts.

With these "deals" They make way more than the price of the phone off you, even after just one year. I pay less then 100$ for 4 lines with google fi, uses tmobiles network, super solid in most of the country and great international. The Verizon unlimited plus would be a minimum of 180$ a month for 4 lines that's an extra 960$ after just one year. The "savvy" consumer strategy is just to sell your old phone yourself to those websites that offer you the top value, and order a good condition refurbished iPhone from the year or two prior from backmarket. Since the 15 just came out for example, you can get a refurbished 13 for for $400 or so pretty soon. The refurbishment process is really solid these days. And The "differences" from two generations of iPhone are laughably minor. Don't get caught up in the consumerism, and don't fall for these deals that hope your bad at math.

If you need bill credits to own the latest iPhone, you can't afford it.

Cheapest Verizon plan for a single line is around $80 including taxes.
Visible (same service) is $25 a month no taxes.

You end up paying almost twice as much for the phone. Essentially you pay an extra $980 in interest over 3 years. This is why the phone companies have these offers, it is insanely profitable for them.

The math might change with a grandfathered plan or multiple lines bit it isn't likely to be a good deal. Money now is worth more than money a year from the present.

I also don't know how people use the same iPhone for more than 2 years. I have noticed the performance drops significantly around 18 months after release.
lol, clueless take.

I'm with Verizon and going no where. I'm keeping a carrier for the rest of my lifetime, which is hopefully 50+ years. The "3 year contract" is more of a mental block for some people they can't get over. But you're always going to have a cell phone bill. And unless you hop around every 1-2 years, which seems like a maddening venture with nothing gained, then these "contracts" are rather irrelevant formalities.

I'm staying with Verizon knowing T-Mobile and ATT are downgrades for my area. That may not be the case for other people. But if I were in an area where ATT was better, my point would be the same.

Verizon is giving me $830 for a shattered back glass iPhone 12 Pro Max. That's a $500 repair. That's a heck of a deal.

I'd say turning down $830 for a phone that's basically worth $0-100 after a $500 repair is moronic.

You can thank TMobile for being the first to do it, then go back to 24 months. But, they set the precedent.

T-Mobile's network is a joke. I tried them for a week—-couldn't get reception inside a grocery store. Literally "No Service." I was like, is this 2003 where you couldn't walk into your basement without a call dropping???

I haven't had that issue in my area, and travel quite a bit. But if that's true for your area then by all means pay double for better service.

This means you can't upgrade for 3 years because if you trade in the phone early, the full remaining balance is due. It sounds great until you realize you're stuck with the phone for 3 years. Unless you buy it outside of Verizon.
No one ever mentions this. I upgrade every year and got hosed cuz I didn't get how the credits worked.

Don't fall for the 36 month crap.

I did the credit for 36 months crap with T-Mobile 2 years ago during covid…they asked me to mail my old phones and then they said all were cracked…so I wouldnt get any credit ..and they couldn't return my old phones..I went the Twitter/Facebook route complaining about the company and someone reached out and provided all credit in one bill. Never again I am falling for the "36 month" no contract contract.

Can someone please post a link to this deal? Would like to know how much the Verizon plans will cost and which phones will be accepted for trade-in.
