You get 10% off msrp normally being a member (pay back as an annual dividend), free shipping and other small perks. They also give out some tiny profit sharing too occasionally. You can get some cheap/good gear from their garage sales or outlet sales or members sale as well too.

Okay.
There are some things that aren't discounted anywhere and the price at REI is the same as Amazon, Walmart, and other stores. So you use the coupon for those items.

I find that Backcountry very often has 10-15% cashback on that one popular site. Couple that with their 15% new member coupon + their rewards and you can do better than REI's 20% off.

I tried on the Moabs and a few others, the speedgoats are just so comfortable. I've got some back issues from a leg that's 32mm shorter than the other from an injury so comfort is priority.

I ordered the black diamond storm 500-R, picking it up tomorrow. If It doesn't cut it on this 5 day trip next week I'll bring it back. One of the perks of REI.

What membership actually provides:
- 10% back (of all full price item purchases) as a dividend available every March for the previous calendar (let's say you spent $300 in 2023, in March 2024 you get $30 dividend in credit)
- free shipping to your house for online purchases, no minimum purchase
- 20% off one full price item and 20% off outlet item during their weeklong sales, which happen about 3 to 4 times a year
- pre-covid there were member only garage sales twice a year, but I think they discontinued it and instead just have it in store all the time now, not sure if members only for purchase of discounted used items
