My family prefers side by side vs french door. My parents can't bend over due to back/knee in order to take things out of the freezer in a French door. Also, it's hard to pull things out of the bottom of the freezer bucket, have to move everything on top first. It's hard to tell what's down there in the books and crannies of the freezer bucket. Side by side, there's many shelves so can stay more organized and can peek all the way to the back most of the time.

For us... The freezer section is more convenient to find things stacked up shelf by shelf.

Bought for $1300 in April 2022. Would recommend as as a no frills reliable fridge. We like side-by-side over French door because you don't have to bend over and hunt for stuff. More room and access for bigger frozen items.

I have this fridge. The bypass is built in. Just yank the filter out of the fridge and close the filter cover. The fridge will bypass the filter section automatically.

Not correct. Depends on needs. Side by side has much better freezer area and is more convenient in that area. You can organize and find stuff . In a French door it is so hard to find something in the freezer . Each has its own advantage.

They're all crap now. The changes they made to remove Freon to save the environment, along with cheaper materials, cost-cutting measures, and more electronics and bells and whistles mean that refrigerators are now disposable appliances only meant to let 2-7 years before being replaced.

Have you found it at a decent price from a reputable seller? I see them cheap at Walmart, but they're all from sketchy 3rd party sellers. I'd rather keep running no filter at all than running a possible knock-off filter made with who-know-what materials.

Quality wise Whirlpool Maytag Kitchenaid LG Samsung are all the same with same part manufactures and different looks. Model by model there might be one bad or good one from each. I only aware of one brand who chi they make their own parts within commercial standard range in only one facility in the world and they are better. But most these brands are the same. Also many fashion brands may have indeed lower quality like Viking… . Just search the model . You may find a low end not great looking from x brand which cool better and more even than 2x price luxury looking from y brand. (When we talk about models from these brands.) it rule does not apply to that great one which I do not mention its name Big Grin those who have money and have done their home work know what brand I am talking about. Personally I boutgh it for my previous house but recently move to a new house and very tight on budget so this time bough one from above brands. Big Grin

Bought this whole whirlpool set bout a year ago. 10/10 would highly recommend. Don't believe negative comments. Costco also includes free delivery, removal of old appliances, and extended warranty. Can't beat it.

Fyi: Wires that come up from the bottom of this refrigerator into the freezer door will break within a few years (depending on how often the freezer door is opened and closed). Opened the freezer doors causes a bundle of wires to continually flex which will eventually break the wires. This will cause the ice maker and dispenser to eventually quit working. Huge design flaw!

All the complaints about the wires breaking on the bottom of the freezer door. Just curious if the people had the doors removed to get the fridge into the kitchen because of the size of the fridge . I just received my fridge yesterday and watched the wire loom move correctly with the door. If the door is removed, is the wire loom reattached properly? I believe the wire loom is not properly reinstalled, causing the wire loom to break.
I had to remove both of my sliding patio doors to get my refrigerator into my kitchen so I didn't have to remove the refrigerator doors.

Our door wasn't removed during transport/installation and the wires have failed multiple times causing the ice maker to stop working. I have re-soldered them and re-loomed them but they continue to fail. We are purchasing an external ice maker.

We previously had a Whirlpool Gold side by side that was far superior and lasted decades.

5. The door shelves are very thin plastic, one broke, i would avoid putting heavier things like milk and orange juice on the door. I epoxy repaired it because replacements are like $80

6 Freezer didnt come with enough shelves but the pictures looks like there are more than i have so maybe this has been resolved.


All that being said I would probably still buy a whirlpool over a samsung or lg. But i would probably try to find something with no water/ice dispensers.

  • water is not cold
  • tray sliders under the shelves are flimsy due to very stupid design
