It's funny how in the specifications they can tell me there's no "bloatware" in the system, and yet they cannot seem to tell me the model of the SSD or RAM or Motherboard.... Ya know, important stuff like that!

Slightly different models, but it does mention that they use pretty decent, name brand parts. I gave it a shot, after I canceled my Lenovo just because the whole thing felt like a mess, and the reviews and non upgradeability of the Alienware turns me off of that one. Mine is set to arrive at Best Buy to pick up Friday, though, so I'll know for sure then. I may pay the extra $50 for the BBY membership to get the 60 day return policy though, just in case.

Yeah, return policies are important for sure. But you'll know everything you need to in the first couple days, more than likely. I'm so far in to my current build there's no turning back now, another $1800 for a GPU and I'll be king of the mountain 😎, for maybe 5 minutes. Good luck with your new toy.
Cheers 🍻

This is the best deal I've seen for a ultra high-end prebuilt that doesn't have Dell and Lenovo proprietary garbage inside. Let the sheep downvote it all they want for being more expensive than those ovens. The 'should be $5' morons will never die either. It's still a good deal.

From the customer uploaded picture I can kind of see (after zooming in as much as possible) the motherboard is probably a MSI Pro Z690 broad ... I'm OK with a low end board like MSI pro series, but Z690 seems to be deal breaker for a 13900k + 4090 build.

I tried to find my own answer here via google and couldn't find anything. Why is this a deal breaker? I used to build computers, but I haven't been too well versed in hardware in the last few years.

Found this, which shows there's no performance difference between a z690 and z790 on a 13900k, if that's what the issue is.

Z790 does faster ram and has way more pcie lanes.

If it's a 690, what a dumb move. Its hardly any price difference.

For a balls to the wall build, yesteryears mobo doesn't cut it.

Two reasons imo:

(1) The reason I'll take a system integrator (like Skytech) prebuilt over a proprietary (Lenovo or HP) prebuilt is all about upgradability, especially the standard motherboard over the HP/Lenovo motherboard (because we don't want to switch motherboard in a prebuilt). A Z790 is superior than Z690 in upgradability for RAM and other PCIE devices, so the Z690 in Skytech kind of kills the upgradability which is imo the main reason to choose it over a Lenovo/HP built.

(2) Depending on the retailers a low end Z790 board is literally costing $0-$10 more than a low end Z690 board (e.g., Msi z790 pro vs Msi z690 pro). Nobody would buy a Z690 at this point. The fact they'll go for a Z690 board in a 13900k + 4090 build costing $3000 it just ... unacceptable. Also, Skytech prebuilts don't come with the best PSU and case fan setup either.

It's about upgradability. If I only care about performance out of box and will not upgrade anything in the future, Lenovo and HP prebuilt are probably good choices too. Going for the system integrator like Skytech is more about upgradability, and using a z690 board to save like 10 bucks (MSI Z790-A pro vs MSI Z690-A pro) in a $3000 built is just ... unacceptable.

A balls to the wall prebuilt. The assumption is probably that it only needs to run fine with shipped config, they don't assume the person buying this is going out after and swapping ram/wants to add 4 more SSDs. I get that these things are expensive, but the amount people keep chasing numbers on paper and trying to poo poo on everything that isn't the absolute top of the line is confusing to me. Honestly, outside of synthetic benchmarks or staring at the FPS counter to see 265 FPS vs 258 FPS, no one that this type of machine is designed for is gonna notice a difference.

Then go for a Lenovo or Hp 4090 built. They tends to have better cooling than this Skytech built. This one has only four fans (three intakes on front radiator and one exhaust) and the 4090 is getting hot air from the cpu radiator intakes … and one exhaust is not great either.

My theory is just they are saving money as much as possible. A lowest-end Z690-a or Z790-p board, a SSD slower than most prebuilts in this price point (see youtube review from Just!N Tech), and one exhaust fan ... I used to like Skytech, not any more given their recent products.
