I think I experienced it too, on both my first gen. 4Ks. Not only were the batteries suddenly dead, but they even leaked the acid into the housing. And now sometimes the remote or the fire stick seems stuck, and I'm not sure if it is a contact issue, or a firmware issue. I believe the infrared part of the remote still works when that happens.
For me this is the reason why I just upgraded to the new 4K (arrived today, still in the box).
For this deal here, are the 4 shortcut buttons on the remote black and generic, like it seems to be the case on the pic?
Buttons are not blank - marked Prime Video, Netflix, DirecTV and Peacock.

Buttons used to be marked these in the past:
Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, Hulu

My friend bought 2x firesticks and yes they swapped Disney+ and Hulu with directtv and peacock.

Worst controller ever

I stand corrected, I have the 1st gen MAX and it was only 8GB storage. Maybe time for upgrade.

in all these years I've never used those dedicated buttons on remote. Unless by mistake and then very maddening. Most remotes have them but I'm a ROKU nut and love the volume on side and lots of storage on the ultra and premier boxes.

FTV is good for Prime users and there are some good CEC functions like controlling soundbar and TV power.

Don't forget the ability to sideload apps onto the stick, which you can't do that on roku

I evenvhave an app that emulates a mouse which you can control from your remote. This allows you to used touch screen only apps from your phone.

I've heard people on the AVS forums claim the new Fire stick 4k Max has a softer and less detailed image.

Though I'd be curious if the new fire stick max doesn't have the lip sync issues the older one does.

You're talking about the original type of Chromecast, which was a casting device, rather than a streaming device, and is no longer produced. When people mention Chromecast now, they're usually talking about "Chromecast with Google TV", which is also a self-contained complete streaming media player with its own voice-capable remote.

EDIT: ...AAAAANNNNNNDDDD of course, everyone else already clarified this.
Thanks for clarifying.. I stand corrected then!
and I agree - if Chromecast has google TV builtin - its a better solution than firestick. In general, I prefer google solutions over amazon including Nest Home over Echo Shows and other home automation stuff. But on TV's somehow got stuck with everything Fire and family has gotten used to that interface now.

This is a garage sale stick, a couple of years old. They seem to make this intentionally confusing.

I believe this only has 1.5 gigs ram memory.

The new 4k stick is basically the old max stick, 2 gigs ram. It makes a difference.

The new Max 4k is faster and has 16 gb storage. Thats the one to get, but it is not on sale. Wait for BF.
