Found some Fire Stick 4K on clearance at my Home Depot store for $13. I think it's pretty decent deal for the 4K model.

Check your store. I think Brickseek is not accurate since it shows nothing around me. But here is the Brickseek link:

YMMV these look to be the 2nd/3rd gen 4k with the dedicated buttons at the bottom. 4k with wifi 6 has been $24 in the past and the 4K Max with wifi 6e (+more storage) seems to be the better standard.

These will do the trick in a pinch however they are showing their age and Amazon is starting to lock down the sideloaded apps as they head away from Android based OS and strictly to in-house

With the way Amazon going about, I'm not investing anymore into their devices. I do have Amazon's latest firestick and it's really good but there's no telling what the next update will do with their devices. At this time, I'm just waiting on Google to come out with a newer version of Google TV that can compete with latest firestick. Otherwise, it looks like AppleTV might be the future for me and ditch Kodi for Plex Frown

What you're saying doesn't make any sense. It's not like the fire stick is the premiere hardware (Nvidia shield), the cheapest hardware (ONN - brand), or the most easily customizable ( Android TV boxes from Amazon/eBay).

Changing platforms from Android to Apple is insane even before you calculate in the added effort of having (and stocking) your own plex server -or- using others.

I've never heard of anyone going FROM Kodi/syncler TO plex, but I've heard of countless others going the other way.

To be fair, Kodi is.. clunky on Android hardware, and syncler, while amazingly fast on Android hardware, does run 15$ a year for the "+" version which enables debrid services, but damn is it worth every penny.

I heard Amazon next update will give up Android and use their own system. Is that true? In that case, all the 3rd party apps won't work anymore.

It's not like I'd be enjoying the transition to Apple or to Plex hence the sad face. But I don't know any cheaper solutions that'll do local playback with Atmos and DTS HD/TrueHD format passthrough. Today the latest firestick supports this and is actually pretty awesome for it. However, in the future if they disable the passthrough like they did with the original 4k then what? The only solution is then to get Nvidia Shield which is also an aging device or to get Apple TV with Plex. Nvidia could come out with updated shield but we have been waiting forever for it and I'm not sure that Nvidia really gives two shits about it anymore.
