in the next 10 to 20 years, EVs will then be more widely used and more mature. Maybe then I'll think about it

I would love an EV but they are just not there yet for me. I drive 3x a month STL Chicago. 280 miles one way. It takes me about 4 hours in my gas's car with no fuel stop. The Tesla app on the web page says the drive will now take me 5 hours with a charge stop. People say I can make it on one charge but that is optimal conditions. What about cold, rain or snow. I am just not ready to have an additional hour added to my drive. I have been doing a lot of EV research lately and am interested in the changes coming on the model 3. The Ionic 6 also looks promising. Need a 400 mile range before EV is really doable for me.

Also insurance will go up almost $80 a month for the Tesla.
Tesla owner here but definitely not a crazy fan. Fully agreed with you there for your use case, no need to try to make it work, if you are clearly not the right use case. Frankly also, I think my Tesla's range is over estimated; it's pretty accurate when using navigation but not great when referencing the "fuel gauge" location, so I just moved that from miles to percentage.

This type of discussion, realistic talk, or even debate is pretty interesting to me. None of the "maybe in 30 years" or "EVs have no downsides" polar opposites. Good luck with your commutes!

I have been lately hearing there's $3500 dealership discount on inventory cars, is this price including that or that discount depends on location? Someone pls guide. Thanks

40 K plus for a model Y. Nope I can get a way better SUV at 40K.

Especially since Model Y is the best selling SUV in the world which suggests the buying public does not agree with you.

Gas Stations are literally everywhere.
Can't speak for you, but I don't have a gas station at my house.

I do have electricity there though, so it's vastly easier and more convenient than fueling a gas car is. A lot less time inhaling carcinogens weekly too.

Quote from R1one :
in 5 to 10 years, GAS-powered cars
Won't be legal to sell in many parts of the world. As early as 2029-2030 in some EU countries- most places by 2035 including a bunch of US states so far

Quote from R1one :
Very limited charging station is a big No.
And also mostly a thing you're imagining.

Again, the majority of Americans can already charge at home NOW, and there's Tesla superchargers all over the place for road trips. And billions of dollars are going into even more chargers going up in the next few years.

Quote from R1one :
"taking an hour break to charge he says". Who got the damm time for that nonsense?.

Nobody, which is why Tesla has superchargers that you only need to stop at for a fraction of that actual time.

Quote from KaatuPaadi :
Hold.. As per the EV experts, taking a 1 hour break to charge
No, that's per you.

Actual EV owners keep telling you how nonsensical your made up number is but you keep repeating it anyway.

Why?

Tesla does not have dealerships- all prices are set by Tesla. There are sometimes specific cars in inventory marked down to varying degrees in some places, but you'd have to check what's available at any given time.

https://ev-cpo.com/

Pretty decent search site there--- for example of the 192 inventory Model 3s in the US right now there's a single one at $36,220.

There's some more in the low 38k range but they've all got 1500-2000 miles on em so they're likely demo cars and they mark them down slightly for having miles on em.

For Model Y similar story, just a couple hundred nationwide in inventory and cheapest is $47,130 for a demo car with 1133 miles on it, then some more demos around 48k or so.

Inventory changes all the time though.

Quote from Apino :
My apologies if this has been asked. From what I gather, you get the $7,500 credit up front, assuming you qualify.
Not until Jan 1 you don't-- right now you get it when you file your taxes if you buy in 2023.

Quote from Apino :

This year I've paid $25,000 in taxes. I may or may not owe anything to the IRS at the end of the year. Does this mean I've qualified and I should not have to pay back the tax credit?

What you had deducted from paychecks is irrelevant. What your potential refund is is irrelevant.

You need $7500 in tax burden. Look at line 18 on your 1040.

That's for this year.

As of Jan 1 that no longer matters and you only need to worry about if you're below the max income cap or not..... THAT said, for at least some EVs the credit might drop to $3750 on Jan 1 so if you have enough tax burden now, and plan to buy soon anyway, you probably won't want to wait till Jan 1 and risk losing half the credit.

Thanks, I do plan on buying in 2023. Is there way to check my tax burden for 2023?

Is your income significantly different this year than last? If not (or if it's simply higher) check line 18 on your 2022 1040...if it's at least $7500 you should be good unless you're in a really weird tax situation where you have a large # of 2023-only non-refundable credits-- that's usually a weird enough situation you'd know you had them.

If your income is much LOWER this year then it's potentially tougher to tell... but broadly speaking you should have a $7500 tax burden if you earn (after standard or itemized deduction) roughly 54k single or 69k married filing jointly.

Tesla can buy down the rates from the lender that does Tesla financing. Rise of the interest rates are preventing many buyers from qualifying for a loan. Lower monthly payments will definitely help sell more cars. Better yet, advertise to the majority of Americans who haven't heard that Tesla Model 3 can be purchased for less than $30K.
Yeah people who can't afford it should just not buy it instead of asking Tesla to charge more to people who can afford it to help them out.

This is the kind of discussion that have had happened when radio was invented. when gas car was invented. when television was introduced. people oppose new things either due to fear or lack of trust. only difference then is they did not have forums like this.

Holy crap!!!! The $65000 RZ450e AWD with 20" wheels only does 172 miles on the highway. EPA range says 196mi. Meanwhile the $48500 ($50500) model Y AWD with 20" wheels does 286 miles (EPA range estimate is 279 miles. BEATS EPA). Not a single tech blog will write an article about how this is highway robbery (pun intended as this is literal LMAO ) by Toyota, but they claim Tesla is ripping off customers.

I'm getting rental car for $550 a month. I will save even $100 on insurance and don't have to worry about maintenance.
Someone please tell me if I should buy a Tesla or continue using rental car as long as possible?

Love all wht EVs stand for and Tesla for innovating.
But the fanboys justifying 1 hour charge time with excuses like I need to pee any way, need fresh air, bla bla nonsense is nauseating.. These folks are diahonest in their personal life
What do they stand for?

I'm more interested in hydrogen cars, like the Hyperion XP-1-

"The Hyperion XP-1 will be able to drive for up to 1,000 miles on one tank of compressed hydrogen gas and its electric motors will generate more than 1,000 horsepower, according to the company. The all-wheel-drive car can go from zero to 60 miles per hour in a little over two seconds, the company said."

No heavy batteries to charge or weigh you down. 1,000 miles between fill ups is pretty amazing too.
