This system would be great for something like alarm or camera installation. You could carry all the tools you need in one tiny little bag.

Read through the comments for the story. Long story short, Lowe's doing a local price match with Tractor Supply (who had the brushless info on their site showing in store only sale, but the brushed version actually in store...so Lowe's price matched the brushless)

I see the appeal for a quick hole in masonry, but I really want to know how underpowered it would be compared to my corded rotary hammer. The portability and much lower weight would be really appealing if it could handle light tasks, but I don't want to spend this much on an attachment if I regret using it everytime to drill a hole.

I own the SDS attachment in both 12v and 18v. The 12v attachment locks in very, very confidently, more like the 18v flexiclick attachments in how it clamps into place. In the hand, it feels hefty and precise -- it weighs about what the rest of the drill and battery weigh together. It smacks and actually does hardened cement as a rotary hammer should, because when connected, the tool fully becomes an actual rotary hammer and will smoke any standard drill with hammer function. Even the depth gauge, surprisingly, is steel, not plastic, and it's well-machined, like the rest of the assembly.
I've used the 12v mostly for 5/32 and 3/16 holes for tapcons and other screws. If you have good control with a 12v drill, this setup will give you nice clean holes. It can manage the occasional 1/2" hole, but eats up batteries doing that.
For overhead work and light-duty fixtures, this thing is really fun to use. If this is something you plan on 'just tossing in your bag', be sure to stash it with SDS plus drills (and a dust mask, silicosis is no joke) so you don't forget.
When I'm looking to anchor something with serious weight where I find I'm checking the load ratings of my anchors, that's when I step up to the 18v or pull out a corded Bosch Bulldog, but that's not the kind of work I do very often. (I generally prefer the 18v to the corded, because I've found the corded to be underpowered over 100' cable runs, and affixing things outdoors is where I often need the extra power.)
Cheers
