Buy the warranty, the LB/RB tend to stick and I've warranted mine 3 times in a year now, other than that it's great to use

Depends on your play style. For a casual gamer who plays no FPS or Battle Royale, I'd say no.

I have an Elite Series 2 that I snagged new for $80 and while I wouldn't ever pay $180 for it, it is superior to the basic controller in every way—minus the stick drift potential.
for forza, need for speed, and GTA would you reccomend it?

I've not played enough racing games to say yes or no, but they could still benefit. The back paddles would be a boon in the simulator style games like the RIDE series where every single button does something important (I actually have my primary profile mapped so that the stick clicks are mapped to paddles), but one of the other big benefits of the Elite controllers is the adjustable trigger stops which reduce the travel necessary to activate the triggers. This is usually bad for racing games, but the triggers are Hall effect so they are a little more accurate when being "feathered" for racing games where that's necessary to make the best times.

I think it's one of those accessories where if you play a fair amount and can justify the $90 plus cost of the accessories to make it fully featured, then it's worth trying (I'd probably go for the Dell deal mentioned above, myself). For me, $100 is about where my willingness to buy a controller ends, but I am happy with my Series 2 and would definitely consider getting the core as a replacement when mine finally fails.

It's hard for me to go back to Xbox controllers after i had two new controllers where the right bumper broke because it's held by a thin branch of plastic. I may be a little rough on it because of rocket League, but I switched to a ps4 controller and haven't had a single issue.

Read recently that MS is coming out with a new controller soon. Probably with Hall effect thumbsticks that never get drift.

The fact that these controllers continue to go on sale every other day, seems to indicate the rumors are true.
The leaked document made no mention of hall effect thumbsticks and it would be announced late May 2024.
