Still grossly overpriced and can't be used on anything but Xbox

$89-$90 is my target for this and I would buy it.

Sony used to be the one who used proprietary storage. They learned their lesson and Microsoft clearly has not.

Yeah, it's overpriced for what it is.
Yeah, it sucks.
Yeah, I bought one because this is the lowest I've seen the 1TB and more storage is an absolute necessity for getting the most out of Game Pass Ultimate on a Xbox S.

It helps that the series x was actually unavailable for purchase for the first 2 years.
Historically the lower end cheaper SKU has always sold better. This was true for the Xbox One X|S and for the PS 4|Pro as well.

I believe the mix was 80/20 back then. I wouldn't be surprised we're going to land at the same spot after the initial early adopters got their fill.

Wonder which brand of these Xbox storage cards is better, Seagate or WD?

Historically, the higher prices SKU was literally unavailable for purchase for the first 2 years on the market while the lower priced options were regularly available. As recent as last Christmas we were getting in line for a chance to buy a PS5 with a disc drive.

At this price why not just buy another Series S

Cool beans, but the PS5 doesn't have a cheaper SKU in the same vein as Xbox so it's kind of a moot point. Heck, the PS5 Digital Edition was barely available until recently.

That doesn't take away from the fact that last generation we got a more expensive SKU that sold 1:4 in favor of the cheaper model. We're now seemingly seeing the same again when fully stocked. There's no reason to believe this will now suddenly change.

Most enthusiast are so into themselves that they really loose touch with the rest of the market. I really wish the enthusiast model sold better, because we would get even more enthusiast models. However, that's just not the case.

You're arguing a hypothetical and not using any of the context for the pro models. XBX came out in the last year of the life cycle. PS4 Pro came out 2 years before the end of the cycle. Of course the lower priced options are going to sell first.

This is the first time the two offerings have been launched side by side so your whole argument is completely invalid. Add that to what I said before and it is clear you can only Google numbers and not live through the last 2 generations of gaming.

Hold the line! Don't buy this crap until they get the prices down to normal expansion size.

don't normal people just delete the games they finished....?
Series S came with 360Gb usable storage. Some of the larger xbox titles are well over 100Gb. If you want more than two of those games installed, you need expanded storage.
Many people have a few games in rotation. Maybe someone has an online multi-player for challenge, a puzzle game for short gaming sessions, a couch co-op for playing with SO, a paw patrol for including the kid, etc. Deleting all but two or three games at a time is not feasible. Then consider the time it takes to download these games.

Except, Xbox Series S is still outselling the Xbox Series X which continues the trend here proving you wrong. The fact that consoles increases sales the generation goes on, and the price drops should raise all sorts of flags for you.

Understandable but you'd only get 512GB with the XBox.

this is why the S doesnt sell and is a terrible idea. Now you spent more than just buying the X in the first place. or almost as much.
No, I bought refurb S a year ago. I'm at 2/3 an X and have 1.5TB storage. It's still a bargain.

Lol, this doesn't help at all with "getting the most out of game pass "
It does when you your son is practically ADD with games, playing one for a couple of days then wanting another one. Plus my games I want to try.

It takes too much effort to keep flipping games in amd out of USB storage.

We would if we ever finished a game...

We like our games more like a buffet than an entree. Smilie

Sorry not trying to disrespect Xbox fanboys, but this is why I stayed on the PS side (I have both but barely use the Xbox), how hard is to think for a less pricy solution, I know Xbox can do better
