Mirrorless is not shrinking and the need to record 4K and 8K has only increased.
They're not common, but they're still used in some DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. They still tend to have SIGNIFICANTLY higher read/write speed than your average SD card of 2023 does.
I doubt any laptop supports this.

This is basically only used in high end cameras and camcorders.

You're not wrong, but where this deal is concerned this... 128GB isn't a ton of recording time at 8K or 4K, really.

The cameras do take pictures too. The point is that the speed is required. The capacity wasn't a subject matter here.

Will this work on a Nikon D850 that has a XQD card slot? I believe it should but confirmation would be nice/appreciated

Cfexpress type b will be around for a while. I actually think it will increase as high end cameras are moving to it. Red Komodo X moved to this format and I think once Red's internal compressed raw patents end, you'll see a lot more camera manufactures moving to this format with raw recording internal.

SD cards can't compete in speed and cfexpress type b are currently cheaper and faster than high end sd cards.

Uhh... Pros aren't doing super long takes. Nobody on a high budget set is recording for half a day with no offloads.

Unfortunately sony uses cf express type A. If anyone wants to buy it for Sony, it won't fit.

The camera market yes but DSLRs and mirrorless are not going anywhere. And most use CFExpress as it is required.

This is CF EXPRESS. NOT CF.

You need to have updated firmware, but yes, they added support for CF Express Type B a while ago.

It is for general consumer, but professional photographers will always need an actual camera. The dSLR has been replaced by mirrorless, but the interchangeable lens camera isn't going anywhere. I have 16 or so CFexpress Type B cards that I use on a weekly basis.

With that said, anyone know if the counterfeiters have hit the CFexpress market? I've avoided ordering memory cards from Amazon for years because of how bad it got.

Videographers will usually use an off camera recorder. Easier to monitor with a bigger screen and storage is cheaper on SSDs.

Some do. Some don't. Plenty of people do in camera recording on two sets of media with no adapters to external recoding. Or if they do an external recording they still record in camera as a backup.
