Mine has done the same, I had to lower resolution output to stop a flash to static rhatbi had to power off and on for. My only real hesitation
It also sounds great with movies and games and I've had no handshake issues because I made sure I used good quality, correctly rated cables and (very importantly) properly set up the HDMI ports in the settings menu.
I second Yamaha - best for reliability.
Had the same issue. Spent HOURS and DAYS troubleshooting this same issue. New cords, different equipment, customer service calls.. finally returned it to Costco after like 9 months of pain and got a Denon.

They have also started charging a la carte pricing, where you may want certain feature but you have to pay extra for it. On some of their models these options can literally cost you as much as the AVR !!!
As a matter of fact some had to file for bankruptcy(Onkyo) because of it!
Sold twice since then and still in the hole over it!
Who owns the brand and equating that to how it performs is a silly argument!
If that was the case Onkyo's parent company owns Klipsch.
How often do people talk negatively about them!
Better components doesn't necessarily mean you will hear a difference(there are plenty of discussions on other AV forums on that), they just get to charge more for it.
Denon giving you the option to buy improvements(NOT required) is a good thing!
TBH it's only 3 main options(to be 4 soon!)
1. Editor app $20 adds adjustments that Dirac has.
Think of being able to add 2.1 to your current 2.0 AVR for $20 instead of having to buy a whole new AVR!
2. MultiEQ-X $199 gives ALL the adjustment advantages of BOTH Dirac Live & Dirac Live Bass Control, without having to buy a new AVR!
3. Dirac Live $349(DLBC next year $499)
There is a reason why people constantly compare Audyssey(XT32) & Dirac, they are both good!
Having the option for Dirac and not "required"(ie Onkyo/Pioneer/Integra) to pay for it is a bonus!
People like to say you don't pay for Dirac with Onkyo/Pioneer/Integra but you actually do.
You take Dirac out of them and they are not as appealing.
The main appeal is Dirac, people mention that all the time!
Take for instance the new $2800 RZ70
All the new features Denon/Marantz has already(+ 2 more sub outs, bass, shaker compatibility) & were added over the RZ50!
The only thing not included with Denon is Dirac Live.
This feature set goes all the way down to the 3800!
I will argue DL cost is built in into the $2800 somewhere.
As you can see just in this thread the worth is subjective, anyone saying otherwise has an agenda IMO.
If your only needing a five speaker unit, why not try shopgoodwill.com ? There are so many 5.1 receivers (non HDMI) available. Granted you may get a lemon, however each of the nine 5.1 optical receivers I have picked up have been in working condition. Average price paid for each was $29 shipped. Just get an optical cable to connect from TV to receiver and a GE/Philips universal remote (both made by Jasco) with at least four inputs. I.e. Yamaha power is up channel button using one code. And to power off, is the power button using another code. Hence you would consume two inputs.
