For picture optimization I used this as baseline, it's the Q650G (better version of this TV) and changed a few things as necessary from there. (https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews...d/settings)

For performance improvement, i first installed Projectivity Launcher from the play store (https://play.google.com/store/app...rojengmenu), you can also install FLauncher from the play store and see which one you like better (https://play.google.com/store/app....flauncher). Both of these are open source, ad-free and allow you to customize the home screen. You aren't constantly bombarded with promos from Google.

Once you are happy with either of the above launchers you can connect via adb to your TV and run the commands from this thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidT...hromecast/). This disables the primary google home launcher and lets you launch one of the ad free ones from the ones I linked above when you press the home button.

Next I installed tvQuickActionsPro (https://play.google.com/store/app...ickactions) this lets you remap buttons of popular streaming apps that you can uninstall/disable via adb. One example is disabling YouTube, installing SmartTube from here (https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube/releases). This is YouTube for android TV but with adblocking and sponsorblock in built and remapped the YouTube button on the TV to SmartTube.

I also uninstalled most of the extra streaming services to remap their buttons, prevent them from using system resources and disabled these apps which I found to be bloat but you can keep let them be on in the background if you want. This disables alexa, google assistant.

Compared to the '22 models looks like:

6 series > Q750G > 5 series > Q650G > 4 series > S450G

So almost directly in between the old 4 and 5 series TCL TVs if it really is the exact same specs as the Q6...but I dunno about that. Someone on AVS said it had a lower max brightness compared to the Q6 when comparing them.
i paid $150 for the 50 inch. SO 65 inch should be $250 to be a great deal. This is meh !

I just picked this up for my parents since their old TV died and it's pretty good for $250. Yeah, just missed the $150 deal by a couple weeks but they didn't need a replacement then.

It's definitely way better than their old 1080p. I was expecting Google TV to suck but it's pretty good aside from the upselling/ads.

Definitely bright Enough for indoor use in a bedroom or living room out of directly light.

The color definitely needs some calibration, but once that's done it's pretty darn good for an entry level set at the price.

This is 5 series

This year, there are 5 different series (increasing in quality)

- S4
- Q5
- Q6
- Q7
- QM8 (M indicates mini LED, only model that has it)

I think the 6 series was the flagship last year, they redid the numbering scheme to match industry standard this year

Nice, got in with the Best buy drop as well. Bought $160 of best buy gift cards from Amazon using 1 AMEX point for $79.99. So the 50 inch TV came for ~$85.

Extremely happy with the performance after debloating the Google OS and changing the launcher. Most the buttons can also be remapped to launch different apps if you want.
Would you please mind sharing details of how you improved its performance? Also, if you've optimized picture settings, can you please share as well?

Local dimming and total brightness are WAY bigger than 120hx. I want it all, so need the Hisense U7 or similar to drop in price. This one has noen, but is still better than my Sanyo 1080P. Unfortunately, it won't die. Brightness is the one thing that might get my wife to go for a 4k TV even with it still working, as that actually causes issues with reflections. Any suggestions for a very bright, cheap 4k TV cheaper than the U7?

Inferior in every way. At or below 5 series.

This one is better. That Hisense model is comparable to the TCL 4 series.

Anyone know if Google tv os has gotten any better? I dealt with a Hisense tv with google once and the lag was awful. I remeber reading that it wasn't the tv but the Google is itself. That was 2 years ago so just wondering if it's improved.
I have the 6-series version of the same tv for around a year now with Google and have had no issues with it.

Does this run the risk of having to maintain this 3rd party vendor software? Not sure I want to bother with it failing and having to trouble shoot… or once setup good to go and no worries?
