Why would you invest and resell on sets that you don't even want yourself. There is literally no demands for this set.

Not 100% the same, but close. I did buy a real and a fake LEGO 42143 Technic Ferrari Daytona SP3 because I was interested in comparing myself. There are differences besides the Lego Logo
Well yes for 85% off there will be differences, but they aren't normally major, more so if you just want to build them and stick them on a shelf.

I actually like the knockoff directions more.

Yeah, if you are willing to hold for 6+ years. SO MANY people stocked up on these for investment when they were $160 last year…and…they just won't retire it.
Fair point

Not sure what you mean by no demand - this set has been a hugely popular set for years and years, and is still a best seller on Amazon. Still one of the higher ranking current sales sets to be retired if it actually retires this year.
I guess it is relative compared to popular collector set like say Star Wars UCS. Sure this set may sell well to families with little kids. But if we look at it strictly from an investment perspective, this set doesn't have the magic, not fun to build. Would this be something that 5-6 years from now say to yourself "Oh I MUST have this set and I have to go hunt for it on second hand market?" It is a good price if you are looking to build it yourself with your family or gift it to people. But as an investment? I doubt it it will yield much down the road.

It's a fantastic build and looks great. Pretty sure Lego continues the run of this set for only one reason…

No brainer for investment at this price
I don't think so anymore. The price keeps going down and set hasn't been retired for a while so pretty much anyone who want one would have got it.

I had bought it for 190$ last year and decided to let it go for 190$ (just get the cashback essentially)

Would this be appropriate for a 9 year old?
It says 16+, so that's how you'd have to gauge your gift. If your 9 year old kid builds this stuff regularly, go for it. If your 9 year old kid doesn't build often, this may be a lot for him or her.

Why isn't it fun to build?
personal opinion, compare with some creator expert and technic sets.

I just found out Best Buy has paid membership now, and Plus or Total members get 10% off all Lego sets. They sell Rivendell set. Also, if you are Plus or Total member and spend $500, you will get $50 certificate (exp. 10/31). I just thought that was cool.

Oh man same. Even just a little bit off would be so nice... I see Amazon has it listed tho so I can at least get CB via their visa. I'm trying to resist and at the same time hoping they don't retire it before I can get it.

Is this actually a good deal? Seems fun to possibly build with the kiddos at some point. Kids are 2.5 and newborn lol.
Both my kids did the total Lego building bit. When I was younger we only got miscellaneous Boxes of bricks, so all freeform building ( we had no money for more expensive sets). When both my kids were little, we actually bought sets and built them as well as freeform. My daughter started with Duplo (she loved the train set) and Mega Bloks dragons. Later on she loved technics.

The Creator and City Search provide awesome value for building with your kids. As they get older they will develop favorite themes.

I never really got into Lego growing up I guess that is the problem and now that having kids I'm like hmm what should I buy. Where should I start. I basically started with speed champions for myself.

Do the dulops go on sale often?

in case you've been living under a rock since the "pandemic" LEGO got greedy and completely overhauled how they conducted their business. They used to only make a select number of sets with predetermined retirement dates. This drove demand and the exclusivity of certain high demand sets. When COVID hit they saw all the money pouring in as people were stuck at home and bored plus people that needed money and thought they could flip LEGO for profit and decided to over produce most sets and do away with retirements as a result. You wouldn't know it going by this current price but this Tree House was in high demand and hard to get. It's one of LEGO's very best sets. Sadly for all the speculators, they made way too many of them so they're stuck with them. If you are just a fan of LEGO and want to put this together I highly recommend it. If you're a speculator...sorry...you're WAY too late to get into this. Those days are over unless you have older Star Wars sets.
