These heaters are awesome. Had mine 5 years. $10 a month in energy usage for a family of 4. Garage gets dehumidified as a side effect. I installed mine on my own with sharkbite fittings (which is fine, all serviceable), saved a ton on install that way and it paid for itself in 3 years.
I'd look into that. I've always had pretty decent water, and electric hot water heaters seem to last forever.

1.) Do you have hard water, and are you dealing with that?

2.) Are you regularly draining the tank per manufacturer's instructions?

3.) Heating elements and anodes are cheap and easy to change. They are expendable items, so its crazy to just replace the whole tank when one goes out. Usually a simple continuity test will tell if an element is bad. for the anode, you just pull it and take a look. it's a door idea to pull it every once in a while anyway so the threads don't seize.
No. Heat pumps are too slow (but more efficient than anything else).

You get a tankless if you want the luxury of never ending hot water.
You get a heat pump if you'd rather save money.

No tankless can touch the "cost to run" efficiency of a heat pump, especially with todays gas prices.

No it's electric boogie woogie. You can exhaust the cold air if you want. The adapter is like $25 on Menards website. The condensate will need to goto a drain.

There is no exhaust to ventilate.

It's a heat pump it draws in humid air and puts out cold dry air.

It wasn't enough to dehumidify my basement at all.

The "hybrid" part of this is essentially a little AC/heat pump, thus doubles as a dehumidifier.

This is a heat pump, air from my garage (where the heater sits) is drawn over a evaporator coil to remove the heat (to move it into the water), as a result water condenses on the coil and has to be drained away (same as how your air handler needs a drain). The air blown back out into the garage is cool and dry as a result.

I have been looking at hybrid units to replace my current gas hot water heater. Why is the cost of installation so much higher for a hybrid than a standard unit, is there that much more labor involved?
