What happens to all my points if I cancel my SW Card?
Nothing will happen. When you earn points it goes straight to your southwest account which is not linked to your credit card in any way, except for to receive points.

So my wife got the got the individual card and business card last November. Unfortunately we thought we had hit the spending on the business card for the points but we missed it. Is there a way we can take advantage this year and get the business card points?
Sounds to me that you did not get the initial bonus on the business card, so you are still eligible for a bonus on the biz card. Cancel your existing biz card. Wait 31 days (or until the statement day of the month passes), get the biz card again and, this time, qualify for the initial bonus

Thanks for a post! Exactly steps i'm taking now as you described...
Step #1 -- called CS and canceled current accout
Step #2 -- wait 32 days and apply for a new card even though CS said you can apply now.

Is it not going to impact your credit score since u gonna close existing one and will open new one? Or this flow doesn't matter must be high score right?

I can't remember Chase's rule. Is it once per lifetime, or do cards drop off the radar? I've had some of these cards like 7-8 years ago...

Chase's eligibility rules for this card are (a) you can't currently have an open INDIVIDUAL (non-business) Southwest credit card ; and (b) you can't have gotten an initial sign on bonus posted to your account within the last 24 months.

Also, Chase has a general rule about 2/30 and 5/24 re: new cards. Such as if you have 5 new cards in the last 24 months you will likely be denied. and/or if you have 2 new credit card accounts opened in the last 30 days you will be denied (opened from any bank--not just Chase)

Many people get these cards every 2 years or so (by canceling and reapplying 32 days later) for the sign-on bonus points.

Chase has other products where it is 4 years (Sapphire) but Southwest has consistently been 2 years

Planning on personal and business cards for companion pass.

I applied for the personal card. It went in the review. I called and talked to the underwriter agent. She said I will need to move my credit from one of the eligible cards to this one. I agreed and they approved the card.

Now I want to apply for the business card. I already have five Chase cards. To improve my chances of approval on the business card, should I close one of the existing cards or should I reduce the credit limit on one of these cards so that there is free credit to assign to the new card?

No don't close if you're applying soon. Business card applications aren't really impacted by personal cards as long as you're under the 5/24 rule.

Wasn't there ever a card or isn't there a card that gives your auto companion pass and/or your sign-on bonus goes towards your A List status, like the 75K points apply towards A list. I feel like they've had a card like that before that would be much preferable to what we're seeing here.

Does the companion pass require 135k points and if so does that include the 75k that is intially provided when you apply for the card? Also, and how much in purchses would you need to make to accumulate the other 60K in points to reach 135k? Thnks

One more question: is the annual fee charged when the card is approved or at the end of the 1st year?

Yes it counts towards the 135k needed for the companion pass. As for your second question, annual fee is charged a few days after the card is approved.

I haven't recieved the card yet (though it was approved), but I was wondering where I would find information about receiving the referral bonus? Also, what would be more advantageous, 1) having my wife apply for the business card from the referral, 2) having her apply for a personal cards, or 3) just applying for the business card myself and forget about the referral?

You didn't ask about a companion pass but it is real benefit you should be targeting.

Most people would have you apply for the Business Card (even though you can't get a referral from it) because then you could hit both the individual bonus and the biz bonus in early 2024, resulting in you getting a companion pass too (in addition to all those Rapid Rewards points). That is your best option.

Most people would hold off on the wife.

Companion pass qualifying points need to have the points hit on the same person's Rapid Rewards Account within the calendar same year. That is why you would start your individual spend now, but NOT complete it until January so your points hit in Jan or Feb 2024.

If you had your wife get the business card, you would be getting two bonuses across two different rapid rewards accounts and would NOT quickly qualify for that companion pass.

The referral is available AFTER your card shows up by going to the chase refer a friend landing page and putting in your Last Name/Zip/Last 4 digits of your card....then a referral link gets generated and if someone else uses your referral link, you will get the referral bonus points posted to your statement shortly thereafter.

I believe that, in the past, there was a prior promo that for a credit card sign up you got a companion pass for 3 months -- and 3 months only.

That was sort of a gimmick.. The benefit of a companion pass is to get it for almost 2 years (in the year you qualify and the whole entire next year)....so people who regularly do this did not consider that to be a great deal.
