the good news is that the firmware update stops the accelerated decline of 990 Pro health. But the bad news is that it doesn't fix the damage that has already hit 990 Pros. "The S.M.A.R.T. values are not reset to factory defaults after updating the firmware,"
So, if you have purchased one like last month but have not yet used, would it be better or would it still be cursed considering it may have older firmware?

It doesn't really matter since updating the firmware straight way is no different than getting one that has new firmware out of the box.

My motherboard doesn't come with the screws for installing nvme ssd so I might potentially have to buy that seperately. What size screw is used? Is there a standard size or does it just depend on what motherboard?

What's up with all the crazy deals today, Samsung OLED monitor and now this, Black Friday not even here yet!!
Well, company used to put all their sales on the same day, and it was good. But after 50 years of this, certain companies start to think -- why don't we sell some of the sale items a few weeks before Black Friday, then once the customer had bought the item, the sale is taken from the competitors.

Still see both version still available. But if anyone considering whether to get w/ or w/o heatsink, think about it this way.
1. The difference in price is $20, does heatsink cost $20?
2. Some M/B already has heatsink and even if it doesn't, it's easier to get the heatsink yourself later. But some SSD come w/ heatsink kinda glued-in and practically impossible to remove.

Didn't need it but couldn't pass this one up. Too bad I used my discover bonus on another item already. Saw someone with 40% wow! Crazy deal there.

Samsung 990 pro has significant good performance per watt.
It's power consumption is less than 6w, which means in most cases it does not need a heatsink.
For comparison, the Nextorage 4TB from another post takes 9w
