There are a number of odd things in the Target spec listing: 5 video out ports (not possible), Bluetooth 4.1 (they don't make WiFi cards with BT 4.1 anymore), LPDDR4x (hints at soldered RAM with no slots), USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C and Type A (laptops in this price range is generally 3.2 Gen 1 a.k.a. 3.0)

Here is what ASUS says about the 17 inch model F1704 [asus.com]:

12th Gen Intel Core i5-1235U 10-Core
Intel® UHD Graphics (memory in single channel mode)
17.3-inch IPS FHD (1920 x 1080) 16:9, 60Hz, 250nits, 45% NTSC color gamut
8GB DDR4, 1 SODIMM slot (Unsure if 8GB is soldered + 1 free slot or 8GB occupies the slot, assume the latter until proven otherwise)
512GB M2 PCIe 3x4 NVMe SSD in a PCIe 4x4 slot
Backlit Keyboard with Num-key
1x USB-C 3.0, 2x USB-A 3.0, 1x USB-A 2.0
HDMI 1.4, 3.5mm jack, DC Charger port
720p camera with privacy shutter
Wi-Fi 802.11ac Dual band 1x1 + Bluetooth 5.1 Wireless Card
50WHrs 3-cell Li-ion
45W AC Adapter
2.10 kg (4.63 lbs)
says in store only. no shipping
FYI only. BT 4.1 on both. 1X1 Wi-fi for either one. Probably not too much to swap out wi-fi card, but no interest for me to look up the upgrade video on disassembly. Pretty good prices. Thanks and repped.

How is Asus in comparision to Lenovo ?
I have liked every ASUS I have owned. They are reliable and not buggy. They are also a tier cheaper than Lenovo. Go for the 15.6 inch with 16 GB ram already installed.

Yes, 100%, more than enough and would even say it's even better than your Mac, regardless what Mac you have. But tell your kid to allow for ventilation, that is, don't put the laptop on the blanket/bed/carpet/etc., as it (the laptop, not your kid, well that is, your kid needs to breath too but for this instance I was referring to the laptop) needs to breath and cool off. And if your kid doesn't listen and continues to cover the laptop vents in some fashion or another, restrict his/her computer usage. And if he/she complains and begs repeatedly, stand your ground and be firm but polite and respectful on your position. Whatever you do, do not beat your child as a form of discipline but rather redirect their behavior with psychology and inform your child that they made the choice to have computer restriction as they elected not to comply with aforementioned instructions to allow the computer to have proper ventilation. If you still have issues or questions in this regard, please feel free to contact me directly or simply reply to this response. Good luck and look forward to getting a status update soon.

Is the only difference between these two the screen size and 8 gigabytes of RAM?

I saw both in store. Screen is pretty dull if that matters to someone.

This is a completely different laptop. Bigger display, lesser other specs.
17.3" vs 15.6
8GB vs 16GB Ram
UHD vs XE graphics

Why are you merging into a smaller laptop thread? Should be its own thread.
