I bought it a couple of months ago. I'm still trying to figure out how to use it. I'm considering an unfinished stud wall mount in my basement near the router.

I have 3 of this. Exact same one from previous same price $24 deals from last year. IT IS SUPERB quality item. I am using 2 of these in 1 desk as I wanted 2 laptops tray (this item has 1 tray in 1 box but I needed 2 trays) so my 2 laptops connect to 1 x 27in LG 4K monitor. This can directly fit any desks and very sturdy and very good quality. Each box comes with 1 pole, 2 arms and 1 laptop tray. I used two quantity of this item so I get 2 poles. One pole is center of Ikea gaming desk and holding the monitor and 1 laptop tray (to the right of monitor where monitor ends) and another pole I drilled hole in Ikea desk on the left side so my another laptop can sit on its tray. So when I work, I have montior in the middle and 2 laptops floating in both ends of monitor. I use KVM switch to swap the display between 2 laptops. The box is very heavy to lift and move around. I drilled hole in my Ikea gaming desk (if you know it has small height from the main desk) and it is perfect since then. Go for it. $24 well spent. If anyone needs pic, let me know. I do not know how to upload it here.

I have this setup with a 27 monitor and keyboard mouse for when I dock my laptop. I also have a 34 monitor on the other side of my desk. I use the mounting holes and it's great for multi use. I've had this setup going on 3 years and don't regret it. Only thing I did was cut the mounting plate to allow airflow to the bottom of my laptop for induction.
I got this a couple of months ago to have my work laptop off my desk. I have my monitors on the desk still and this sits in a few inches, which blocks part of the monitor, that is a me issue. My configuration wouldn't really work to mount the monitor (shelf about the desk), though I did test the monitor mount to try it and it worked as expected. Overall this is great for my set up.

Are the tops of your monitor stand poles in any way attached/anchored to the underside of the top shelf of the desk? Am just wondering if that might be lending extra stability to the monitor stands.

You're right. There is desk above monitor and below monitor and these desks are fully removable and can be fitted to any height. If you know this Ikea FREDEE gaming desk (this is full size model) it has main desk where see keyboard, mouse etc. is not the one I mounted these poles. They are attached to another floating desk (half the depth of main desk) this floating desk is meant for monitors with its monitor stand etc bookshelf speakers etc any such purpose. I drilled these 2 poles with small random size hole and put both poles one in each corner The height of the pole fits perfectly between the top and bottom and the angle mount you can adjust to any height in this pole as you can tighten them using provided allen hex key.
