I received iPhone 13 today from walmart..
After inserting the SIM card and activating it, I chatted with Verizon.
The first agent refused the payoff and said it would be possible in 14 days.
The second agent sent me the URL right away and I paid $299.
Then I cancel line. I need 60days for unlock.

I tried to do it with an iPhone 14 in walmart.com when I saw this deal. It asked me to login to my Verizon (I'm with vzn), and asked for permission to pull credit. I declined. I think anything with a payment plan will need a credit check.

Though this is 36 months contract , but once you activate the line, you can pay off it via chat rep or in cash in verizon store . Once phone is paid , you can cancel the line with in 3 days to avoid activation / upgrade fees. Wait for 60 days to unlock the device.

THIS IS NOT MONTHLY CREDITS. AMOUNT FINANCED will be $299 or $99 , depends which phone you select.

I got both phones from Verizon and AT&T because I thought one of the methods was going to fail. To my surprise, both methods worked. I highly recommend the AT&T method over Verizon because it is a lot more hassle free. This is what I did

Verizon:
Ordered phone on 11/8, received phone on 11/9. Went to Verizon store with cash but got denied for paying off early. Tried Verizon chat service and both chatbot and live human were unable to help me. On 11/10, Called the 611 from my Verizon phone as many suggested here and the first agent let me pay it off with no questions asked. Called back 30 min later and cancelled service. Hopefully the phone will be unlocked in 60 days

AT&T:
Ordered phone on 11/8, received phone on 11/9. Did SIM swap as suggested by OP on 11/9. Submitted unlock request on 11/9 evening but that got denied. On 11/10, submitted another unlock request and phone was immediately unlocked and ready to be used with T-mobile. Cancelled service.
I think most of us plan to do the atnt sim unlock with out Verizon phones. I don't plan to just leave mine in the drawer if it's paid off

Update:
here are my steps
1. Got the device on Verizon plan in Walmart store, put $298 down payment+ tax
2. Added credit card in my online account and made few calls and texts.
3. Paid off the device ($1) by calling the number and asking the bot as mentioned in previous comments.
4. Canceled my line via Verizon chat. Agent was saying deactivation date one month from now, requested immediate cancellation. Also confirmed device paid off.
5. Final bill estimate shows $7.10
6. Now Waiting for device unlock.
I believe one step you missed is insert the sim in verizon phone and make one or two calls to "activate" phone on their network before disconnecting the service.

according to some people who did the ATT sim trick, no need to turn on the phone on VZN network

Hi, I am a little confused, could you please clarify for me? To use At&t sim unlock method, I need to buy a Verizon phone? Is this correct? Thanks a lot.

hmm.. we are on Verizon and i was thinking of activating then waiting 60 days for unlock. now this immediate unlock via ATT is tempting.. what if ATT refuses unlock? then i am stuck with an ATT phone that we cant use and cant unlock? sounds risky to me.

So a $1 ATT MVNO sim card like this @ Best Buy would work for the Verizon unlock trick?

I would not use an MVNO card, except maybe ATT prepaid. I just think its risky

Update: I waited until the phone was delivered today and then cancelled via chat. I never turned the phone on or used the service prior to this. After politely asking and mentioning my horrible in store experience of trying to pay the device off last night I eventually got the bill down to Zero. Bill estimate was $10.xx and I was promised that would be credited so I owe zero.

I then used the ATT sim trick, I was a little scared to try it but it worked just as described. My new phone is now active on my carrier of choice and shows "no sim restrictions".

Thanks to everyone for your research and tips. I was concerned this wouldn't work when I was denied paying in store but it all worked out!
can you help explain what exactly is ATT sim trick to do on verizon phone?

When you get the phone immediately swap the sim to an old inactive AT&T sim, power on go through setup etc until it connects to network
Then go to AT&T unlock webpage and select don't have a number, input the IMEI, you'll get a confirmation email where you click confirm then it should unlock.
Make sure sim is inactive
Make sure not to power on with Verizon sim still in or it will lock to Verizon…
Hi in case after doing what you suggested, if ATT website doesn't unlock the verizon phone, can you still put back the verizon sim and make it work on verizon network or will it screw up?

Do we need to select a plan either for ATT or Verizon while ordering the phone?

At what point of that process did you pay off the phone?
Same question, can you pay off the Verizon phone as soon as it arrives (delivery) via chat and then cancel - all via Verizon chat?

Thanks!

How will it connect to ATT network if you insert an inactive ATT sim?

It doesnt have to connect. Not sure if you need to be on wifi or not. Even inactive sims can connect to servers though to make 911 calls. You do not need service. For iPhones, the first sim in is the first service it locks to.

If ATT refuses to unlock, can't you put back verizon sim the phone came with and make it work on verizon network?
