Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.
So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.
Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

kind of fed up at this point. Not sure it is worth more time and effort. I do think if you really want to get the point across you all should hit up Straight Talk on social media. Blow it up with bad press. They use it to try and talk about promo's and how they do great things for customers. How about everyone blows it all up with bad PR until they get their act together. Bring the issues to the light.

I will even link you all their social if it helps.

Edit: Love the downvotes for being one of the people that followed the rules online and hasn't had a phone shipped. Spent 4 hours in a store today and told the Straight Talk phones weren't activating after pacing the store 3 hours. Just trying to get a phone for myself. Not one of the losers trying to flip them to kill the deal for users that will actually use them.

Anyone who purchased from the straight talk website and had their order delivered not include the $45 service card? I can't activate the phone without the card.

website -> activate ... straight talk phone, put in the device imei. If it errors, hit up chat on the website, they fixed it for me (though they asked for an email/zip code, they used the zip code to assign the phone number, and didn't actually register an account with the email... I had to do that later). Took about 5 minutes, tops.

Same with me. It went blank without me contacting anyone.
The status of my order went from blank to Pending remote fulfillment sometime this afternoon. Perhaps there's still hope?

Sim is linked to phone, that's why they ask for IMEI when you activate. It's not recommended to swap sim - even after unlocking.

Keep the original sim in the phone then move it to another phone after it unlocks.

You can after 61 days or whatever unlock date they give you. If not unlocking, then you're free to move the card to another phone.

After you bring the phone home from Walmart, I would create an account on straight talk. I tried to sign in with my phone number and it then asked for my password. I don't remember creating a password at Walmart. I clicked "forgot my password", it sent an password recover email to my email and then I created a brand new password.

Now I can get straight talk rewards. Woohoo. I won another free magazine subscription for the billionth time on the spin wheel. I remember back in the old tracfone days where I would rack up a ton of reward points. Too bad not anymore.

Not how it works. Numerous reports of accounts getting messed up when sim & phone aren't registered correctly.
If want to move service/number to different phone you need to activate a $1 BYOP sim in the new phone choosing to keep active number. Support does not recommend swapping.

It does not come with anything other than the SIM card. Put it in the phone and call the 1.866 number on the red trifold card. Have the IMEI number. If you are lucky, it will activate. If you are not, prepare for an arduous customer service experience that will eventually give you the result you're after, but only if you're diligent. Good luck.
