Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

Sometimes you have to do it a couple of times for it to work. Make a 2 minute phone call and try again.

Rather not get on some naughty list but kind of want money back if they're just going to sit on the 11/6 order. Of course I'd rather they ship eventually.

Don't care if it takes a while for a refund, but I don't want to go chargeback route unless there's a zero chance of refund.

How long should one wait, a month?

Might try calling a few times for entertainment value.
Read lots of comments on an iPhone 11 thread someone linked. I think there was one comment about them actually shipping but I don't know. It was a blur of mostly anger and frustration with all of it.

My Walmart had 2 phones in stock today, and when I told the lady I wanted to buy one with the straight talk bronze plan, she said nope, the $49 deal was only if you put it on a yearly contract. She said it was in the fine print and proceeded to read the fine print to me, and it said nothing of the sort. Then she said that's the only way the price drops down to $49. If you want to buy the pay-as-you-go plan, the phone is $149. 😠

It is a bluff, Walmart can not put this phone on a yearly plan or authorize auto-renew

Call the bluff and tell her you want the phone and the 35 plan.

Yeah, you'll always see lots of frustration and anger vented in these threads, which is to be expected given some of their practices. If you don't want to get nixed from future deals, I'd just set a reminder to check where things stand after a few weeks and then file a chargeback then if no updates. You have like 60 days to file one, so it's not like there's any problem giving it some time. I certainly understand filing chargebacks at some point, but the whole idea of doing so after only a week is pretty silly. The company is well known for being horribly disorganized and it's not at all uncommon for orders to take a couple of weeks. Yes, lousy practices … but just one of the things that people getting the deals repeatedly have come to expect. If people are in desperate immediate need of that phone or their $100 and have no time to wait. ST isn't the place to order from. That should probably be a mandatory warning for any of these future TF or ST deals. But overall, the deals have been terrific on many occasions for those who are willing to play the screwup lottery and see how it plays out.

Anyone able to buy in store with $35 plan ? My Walmart says the promo requires the $45 plan to get the discount on the SE.
Yes, just did today.

Says "Activate any Straight Talk plan in-store at your local Walmart.."

Aw. That's not encouraging.

Hoping to have time in the next day or so to try my luck with calling them.

Good points. I paid $149 for the phone two months ago, gets unlocked Friday. It's a birthday present for my daughter and while being an SD'er at first glance I'm like I could have saved $60 or maybe a $100 for the very few but I'm at peace having followed this thread Wink Sanity and time mean something.

Grabbed one in 95620 ZIP code today. There were two phones left and the guy before me wanted to purchase both, but when told they were the last phones, decided to share one with me. I am very grateful I didn't have to drive to a different store and hunt for the inventory. Paid $49 for the phone and $35 for the line plus taxes. The store rep was super helpful as well. Overall a very good experience and I am surprised at how good the iPhone SE is.

Go to the front and ask for a CSM. Explain the deal to them and / or show them the terms (they can pull the offer details on their own device, just as you can in the app) and let them know that the employee isn't letting you get it. Any decent manager will make sure that they honor the terms of the deal. But you want the CSM, not the phones / electronics manager.

It also usually irks the employee who blew you off to have to do it with the manager standing over their shoulder, which is a bit of an added bonus. The phone guy at the first one I went to basically said he couldn't do it and wasn't too anxious to help. But he figured it out as the manager stood next to him and watched.

thats what i did as well. i complained about that "no accounts shown up" for my online log in. but nobody cares.

have you checked your online profile? the weird thing is my first name is "My Account". my last name is blank. and the phone number on my profile is some weird number in Pensylvania.
Similar issue on my online account. Line not showing up. For account profile, name appears ok but weird number.

Quote from onlybest :
In the same boat as you, activated today, followed the instructions, and selected no for the online account, and now don't see the number in the account. Should we create a new account by using the phone number and new email ID? Will that work and how do we turn off the autopay?
Planning to leave it alone until early Dec. Figure things will calm down, online account might correct itself in a few days or it will be easier to get a hold of customer support after the holiday sale but before Christmas.

Wow, that's awesome … very nice of the guy to give one up. It would have sucked to miss out after being that close.

That's so annoying! I was short on time and wasn't certain of everything, but now even looking at the last image in the Walmart gallery on the purchase page linked in the deal, it shows the iPhone advertisement as no-contract. Grrrr.

If I say I want the phone and the $35 plan, does she ring them both up and send me on my way? From all the posts in this thread, it sounds like there's some activation process they do in the store, but the saleslady said they don't do anything in the store if I'm buying the prepaid $35 plan card. I've never done straight talk before.

Really appreciate your previous reply. Smilie
