Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

Go to the front and ask for a CSM. Explain the deal to them and / or show them the terms (they can pull the offer details on their own device, just as you can in the app) and let them know that the employee isn't letting you get it. Any decent manager will make sure that they honor the terms of the deal. But you want the CSM, not the phones / electronics manager.

It also usually irks the employee who blew you off to have to do it with the manager standing over their shoulder, which is a bit of an added bonus. The phone guy at the first one I went to basically said he couldn't do it and wasn't too anxious to help. But he figured it out as the manager stood next to him and watched.
instructions on the IPhone SE is very crystal clear. They have three barcodes to be scanned in sequence or something which will ensure the phone is activated with IMEI, Plan etc.
My guy took like 90 seconds End to End to complete everything.

Just make sure the store scans both the phone and the plan card correctly.

Yeah, but my first trip was on 11/6 the first day it went live and none of the reps or managers out there seemed to know what was up at that time. In fact, they never even entered it in the WARP system, even though they had one. They ended up ringing me up with two phones, two of the cardboard plan cards and doing a manual override on the price of the phone, as the discount did not apply when rang up like that. I think the guy just wanted to be done with it rather than waste any more time trying to figure it out properly with the manger hovering, lol. Also, it was a regular electronics employee, not an outside phone rep.

Went to 3 stores near me for buying one or two but they say store doesn't do the deal and they don't activate the straight talk plans. Worse part is there is no straight talk rep or anyone around.

And do you leave the store with the phone and the straight talk phone plan card, or just the phone? I noticed the plan card had something to be scratched off the back, so will I need it after they do all their scanning?

That's so annoying! I was short on time and wasn't certain of everything, but now even looking at the last image in the Walmart gallery on the purchase page linked in the deal, it shows the iPhone advertisement as no-contract. Grrrr.

If I say I want the phone and the $35 plan, does she ring them both up and send me on my way? From all the posts in this thread, it sounds like there's some activation process they do in the store, but the saleslady said they don't do anything in the store if I'm buying the prepaid $35 plan card. I've never done straight talk before.

Really appreciate your previous reply. Smilie
This discount will show on the 35 dollar plan, however, if she offers the 45 plan you should probably take that.

Got the phone today and activated with TF as a new phone and keeping my number. Entered the eSIM IMEI and got to a success screen, with instructions to keep WiFi On and I would receive a notification to add the TF plan to my device. My old phone stopped working immediately, but it's now been a couple hours and even after several restarts and the OS update to 17.1.1, nothing from Tracfone yet.

Care to speculate what will happen if I get TF CS involved? Interestingly, trying to go through the activation Wizard at ST says that the device is already activated with another carrier. And repeating with TF says that it is already active as well.

Update 1: Called TF, got escalated, and was told that the iPhone SE 3 is not yet supported for eSIM by TF! They couldn't explain how I was able to complete the activation wizard...I was then told I need to use a physical SIM card with this phone. I had a kit on hand, but as I was about to ask if this would be considered BYOD or not, the call was dropped! I called back and am now told I will receive a callback from Tier 2 support.
People have reported activating se3 esim on TF - think it's even on the website. Call was dropped because rep didn't know what to do - seems to happen a lot.
Call back, doubtful anyone will call you.

If you buy it at Walmart, put the sim in and just turn it on, it is already activated. The plan is already loaded

I bought 4 SE3s with no plan using 2 different emails before 7am PST on 11/6. All of them are in "Pending remote fulfillment" purgatory. I'll give them a few more days before I start doing credit card chargebacks. Bring on the ban!
Still "Pending remote fulfillment" from 11/6 orders, so I disputed all 4 purchases. I hope that I'm blacklisted on Tracfone so that this never happens again.

There is a Slickdeals user @TracFoneAniya who is answering questions in a Total Wireless thread. Too bad we can't get a Tracphone rep in here. I guess maybe it's too intimidating Smilie

There is confusion in the thread because anyone buying directly from Straight Talk must activate (how does that make any sense) and those who got the phones from Walmart from a non phone Premium employee must activate. (ie Walmart manager made adjustment at the register)

That is what Straight Talk would prefer. Do that if you plan on keeping the phone on Straight Talk service. The risk is the rep may make the phone a BYOP if you do not wait the 61 days, which permanently locks it to Straight Talk and would be YMMV to transfer only to one of their sister companies (ie Tracfone)
