Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

OSL rep not in Walmart for 2 visits I had. Manager said that he'd take $50 off as he just thinks I want the phone. So, Should I just get it for $99 & It'll unlock after 60 days or still go for the $49 & $35 deal & hope I can get an OSL to be there & offer it?
Won't unlock without activation, you still need to buy service on top of the $99.

Can you port a number to Metro if the line doesn't have active service? In other words, can I port the number from this iPhone deal in 31 days after the ST plan expires? Alternatively, can you port the number right now without jeopardizing the unlock process?
can't port an inactive line.

My experience yesterday

1. i walked to the Electronic Dept w promo screen on my phone
2. Look for Cell phones representative ( Not walmart rep)
3. Rep asked the walmart rep for the key to open the locked cage.
4. The rep asked my Email, ( he didnt ask my which plan but he select $45 one), last 4 of my SS, my ATT number ( for porting), ATT Porting Pin)
5. I make sure that was the correc Iphone SE from ST with the Grey attachment on the box
6. Rang it up , no Print out , just the reicept
7. Login to ST account with my email, click forgot password. Loged in , but no Information updated yet. phone is not working or activated.
8. Got a call from ATT said ST didnt port the number properly.
9. Online chat with ST Rep to report my portin issue.
10 Next morning i got a call from ST Rep, verify my phone number ( Walmart didnt enter the correct number, sigh) , ATT port pin.
11. phone activated after 1 hr, text 611611, recieved sms" Phone will be unlock after 60 days.
12. got 2 follow up call from ST to make sure everything work fine.

I think i m quite lucky with the ST reps, they are nice and knowledgable
I went thru the motions of getting the phone at Walmart with the phone rep (took my info, including my social), BUT ... He said my next payment would be $55~ (on the $35 plan, and $65~ on the $45 plan), because I would need to pay off the $100 discount monthly (hence why they take your SS#), otherwise I would NOT be able to unlock it after 60 days.... Anyone else experience this???

Just another employee that has no clue what's going on.
There's nothing to pay off - phone is a cash purchase, not a payment plan.

I'm absolutely fuming that I missed the iPhone 13 deal on here that was still active a few days ago. $299 for an iPhone 13 is an unbeatable deal. Probably the best cell phone deal this entire holiday season. Now I'm stuck with trying to get this iPhone SE.

Get the 14 Plus at Walmart next week with Walmart GC - net $279

The rep is an idiot. Are you sure he signed you up for Straight Talk? You only pay 1 month, let phone sit for a month, and then it is unlocked.

You should not have given your social for a prepaid carrier - sounds like the guy is a complete jackass at your Walmart store and knows nothing.

Initially he said the deal only works the $45/mo plan or higher, but I asked if he can try it with the $35 plan first and see if the system lets him, so idk if trying with the $35 plan messed the whole thing up and made the system think I owe the $100 discount (and I get dinged on my credit for not paying it off, since they have my SS#). I ended up not getting it because that. Does this deal only work with a $45 plan or higher? The post implies both ($35 and $45)

Yeah, it caught me off guard when he asked for me social. Yeah, it was a Straight Talk iPhone with a ST plan. On his system it showed future monthly payments as $55 (with the $35 plan, and $65 (with the $45 plan), because I was to pay off the $100 discount, otherwise I would not be able to unlock and I would get dinged on my credit. He said I was essentially leasing the phone... I wasn't prepared for him saying any of that so I just left

Yep … someone else said their rep tried to stupidly do the lease option as well. You want the ST prepaid plan. They should not need any info from you other than name and email address (don't fudge the email or you may not be able to login later if you want to). Explain it to him, but don't waste too much time arguing with someone who isn't getting it. Ask for a manager and try to get them to actually read the deal. Pull the offer terms up on your phone or have them do it on their device. You should only need the $35 plan, but some have been pushing for $45 plan and it's your call if you want to fight further on that one.

Long story:
The phone/OSL reps acted like I was pulling teeth. Got to the store and asked if they had the SE and was immediately told no without them looking by one of them. He then told me that they did have iPhone SE's for postpaid, I acted slightly interested knowing that they're bill credits and add a line. When he walked away, I asked a regular Walmart associate also working in electronics in a blue vest if they had any, he was the one who actually checked and pulled one from the drawer. But it couldn't be activated without the OSL rep. I stood there waiting for the other OSL rep to finish with someone else. I can hear the 1st guy mumbling under his breath when he walked back to the counter. Initially he tried to activate as a regular device at full price, told him I wanted the Walmart $49 deal, so had to be done in WARP. 2nd guy starts to go through the process but asks me for SSN. Immediately threw red flags, why does prepaid need SSN? I looked at his screen and it said Straight Talk lease, I told him, no I don't want lease I want to buy outright. Kept giving me attitude for not wanting to add a line/upgrade through ATT or T-Mobile. I just stood my ground. I already caught 1st guy lying. He kept pushing through same system until it gave him error and called over OSL guy #1, he looks over briefly and they call a Walmart manager from the back, while OSL guy #2, goes onto floor to try to get people to buy postpaid devices. Meanwhile OSL guy #1 realizes that 2 was trying to open up a Straight Talk lease, and proceeds to go back and try to do outright purchase like I told the 2nd guy, only it wouldn't go through because the 1st transaction hadn't been fully cancelled and the phone was now "reserved" because of it. Meanwhile, Walmart manager comes through and looks at screen, while they're talking, OSL #1 is chatting with Walmart manager, turns out OSL guy 1 is the area manager for the store and some other stores in the area. I hear him ask if there are more in the back because the phone was reserved and manager looks inventory up and they have 6 in back. Walmart manager doesn't want to pull inventory from back because the phone they tried earlier now can't be sold because it's reserved. OSL manager is able to eventually cancel out the attempted lease from guy 2, and go through correct procedure to sell phone. Meanwhile, OSL manager tells Walmart manager to tell everyone they're completely out of StraightTalk iPhone SEs all while I'm standing in front of them. OSL manager finishes WARP, finishes the process out at the Walmart desk. Total out the door is $89.

Now I'm definitely sure if I end up doing the postpaid ATT/Verizon BF Walmart iPhone 14 Plus/S23 deal with gift card, it's going to be online only. Terrible experience.

Location: Newington CT
I actually just had that happen to me. The guy initially said the deal only works with the $45/mo plan (or higher), but I told him to try with the $35 plan (since this post implies it works with the $35 plan?). He started asking for my info, and then asked for my social, which I thought was odd ... He then said that with the $35 plan, my next payment would actually be $55, and with the $45 plan, my next payment would be $65, because this was a lease and I needed to pay off the rest of the phone... None of which I was prepared for. I've never used ST, so I wasn't even aware they had a lease option. I felt the guy had no clue what he was doing, so I just left. Does this deal only work with a $45+ plan, or did you do it with the $35 plan?

I definitely wouldn't try to port the straight talk number before the 2 month unlock point.
Why not? Have you had problems with that in the past?

I'm going to try to port my number tomorrow (still active service) which is about 4 days before the unlock date.

Will tell you if it fails (the unlock)...

Yeah, there have been reports in previous threads of that working … always a bit of added risk, but it's not the end of the world if an unlock gets messed up with such a cheap deal.
