Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

THIS THREAD NEEDS A PIN THAT MENTIONS.

YOU MUST RECEIVE A 15DIGIT ACTIVATION CODE FROM THE WALMART EMPLOYEE. DEMAND A MANAGER IMMEDIATELY IF THEY ACT CONFUSED. Trust me, it will save you 4hours.

Edit: The walmart employee gave me a print out of the pin, and 15 digit activation code after waiting about an hour with him and straight talk on the phone. He used the phone case IMEI , believe he scanned it. He told me he was using the wrong computer to explain the wait. But he immediately remembered when i demanded the manager. So do that first.

If done thru the Warp system correctly you literally don't have to do anything. Pop the SIM in and the phone is activated.

I only accessed my Straight Talk account with the email I gave the guy to keep tabs on the situation but I didn't even need to do that.

So I filed an FCC and FTC complaint yesterday. FCC notified this morning that the complaint had been sent to Straight Talk. A Straight Talk rep called me a couple hours later and sent me an email. I haven't had time to get back in touch with them. The email address seems to be exclusive to dealing with fcc complaints. Maybe if enough people complain it will expedite this whole thing one way or another.

I complained 2 days ago and today I got my refund. I didn't receive an email and order tracking still says pending remote fulfillment.

I did some Walmart hunting yesterday. Stores that have phones in stock don't have WARP. Stores that have WARP don't have phones in stock. Game over. One the reps told me people were buying like 10-20 phones
That was my problem too! I stopped at the store on my commute almost every day, and the friendly T-ROC rep called other reps for me to ask if they had phones. No one did. Their manager rotates through the stores that don't have a permanent rep which meant they had the phones, but he doesn't work set hours so I could never get there before he sold his daily quota and left. They finally gave me his number to arrange a time, but luckily my store got more inventory before I had to use it.

Went back to WM and got a second phone for the wife. In and out, easy peasey. Worked like a top.
Same, hadn't planned on getting another but bought 2nd one (after getting one from ST website w/$45 plan) in my small town Walmart this afternoon. Surprised to see 8 in case & find 2 phone reps that actually knew how to activate (used $35 plan this time).
They didn't have correct info about ST/TW/TF unlock - said 90 days & told me iPhone was unlocked till ST sim activated (?).
Glad I knew more than they did, I can understand why so many are having issues if reps give bad information.

Did you get it when you bought the phone or did you have to go back into the store later?

I did not receive my code, but my phone activated automatically. I'm not sure if I need the code, but I might need the email address he made up without asking me.

The key words are "If" and "correctly". Neither WM nor ST inspires a lot of confidence.

One of my two phones did not activate correctly, and both were done by the same person just 20 minutes apart.

Hey guys lets worry about what to do next for those who already got these phones, Need to make a dough right?
I'm wondering what happens to the phones that were bought using a fake/random email address. With TracFone, devices need to be removed from an account before they can be reactivated on TF by another user. The device IMEI is linked to an account and can't be added to a different account unless it is released. I'm guessing ST is the same.

Just hoping that these phones aren't in some type of ST/TF limbo

Will placing the sim card in another phone(after activation) affect the unlocking process? Thanks!
Hard to say, TracFone doesn't support swapping SIMs, because the SIM is linked to the IMEI. I presume Straight Talk is similar.

I don't think it will affect the device unlock, but I wouldn't trust that SIM in a different phone. It might stop working after some unknown period of time.

Yeah, you don't need any plan PIN when purchased at Walmart unless they screw up the activation. You can generally just pop the SIM in and be good to go. If concerned, you can power it up and make sure it's working before leaving the store. Kind of sucks that he just made up an email rather than asking you though.

I'm just wondering what happens if I sell the phone. Is it forever tied to some random email?

Guess the guy was either not familiar with this or didn't want to sell it to me. That guy insists this deal expired Yesterday, and all they can do is either check out with the price of $149 or let me come back next Thursday because "Thursday is the new cycle of this deal". I've already gone to two different Walmarts, guess I will go to another one tomorrow.

Not sure, but you could probably give them a call to change it if it's a concern. They would probably just need to send the phone a verification code to ensure that it's actually your phone.

He's misinformed by Walmart. Ask him to do a dry run of activating just for shits and giggles. The deal should come up in the WARP system.

My local store had changed their signage on Monday because they thought the deal ended the night before. I went back in today, and the $49 sign is back up.

My WM rep was aware - told me today that deal was supposed to expire by now but online ad date was incorrect & he did sell me one this afternoon at $49. WM should honor the date in the ad - maybe try manager?
