Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

Please show a post where I encouraged anyone to do a chargeback. That's right, there are none. All I said was that your post about chargebacks is simplistic and inaccurate, which also describes you. Mommy needs to take away your keyboard.

I will take the words from multiple websites describing the difference between chargeback and refunds over a clueless poster. You clearly don't have a clue what a chargeback is so don't pretend to know more than the websites. I am laughing at how you pushed the chargebacks. The look on your face when you saw all the "automatic refunds" pop up after you did your chargeback..... Priceless. Did you learn your lesson?

You failed at all 3.

"Chargeback, chargeback chargeback!" Ehhh. Great call there. Those websites know way more what chargebacks are than you would ever know.

You need to read this because you have zero clue what a chargeback is. The "chargeback genius" needs to stop blabbing about stuff that they have zero clue about.

Just speculating here, but I think maybe the account number is not needed. Many people get pre-paid phones and never bother to set up an account. The PIN is probably just needed as minimal evidence that the person has possession and control of the phone number.

Can someone help me out? I brought one two months ago to unlock and give as a X-Mas gift.
How do I get it unlocked? I paid for two months of service with tracfone ($10 plan). I never opened up the box, as like I said its an X-Mas Gift. How do I get it unlocked? The Tracfone account shows the correct IMEI. I had to submit an unlock request two days ago, and just did another one apparently. I'm lost on what to do here lol. I'd rather not open the box if I don't have too.

According to sickw.com it still showing IMEI Check Locked Carrier: 2360 - US TracFone/StraightTalk Locked Policy Sim-Lock Status: Locked
It sounds like something must not have registered it in the system properly or something. I have unlocked three sealed phones that way over the last month (and more previously), with the latest one that I just checked on sickw yesterday. That one was activated on 9/18 and sickw now shows as unlocked. I haven't opened it yet, but any phone that I've ever had show up as unlocked on sickw has always shown as unlocked on the phone itself. For my phones, those last ones were all ST phones that were activated on the TF network. I've also done it with TW phones.

What actual date did you activate the phone on the network? Keep in mind that the unlock is usually 60 days from the activation date, not purchase date. Also, the unlocks sometimes don't happen until a few days later (I've seen as late as day 65 reported).

I see 2 potential problems.
By leaving the box sealed, the easiest way to check that the countdown clock is actually running cannot work. (By texting a request for a clock check from the phone in question.)

And, even if everything is running as anticipated, the phone won't actually unlock until it connects to Apple's servers after the required 60 days. So gifting a still-sealed box means you cannot confirm the phone is actually unlocked.

As to whether or not the 'sealed box' method should work-- I have no experience, although some folks have reported success. I'm just certain that you can't confirm success until after the box is unsealed & connected to WiFi for a bit.
That's true and it does remove a potential safeguard in checking that everything is on-track. I've always made sure to check that the plan / line was showing as active on the account website and that the IMEI of the phone showed up under the device information (I view that step as fairly critical). As for checking that the device was actually unlocked, sickw has always shown to be pretty accurate in that regard. Any phone that has shown as unlocked there has always turned out to be actually unlocked. It sounds like he's not even getting that showing up for him. Again … not trying to argue that there is added risk with leaving them sealed, but just relaying my own experience with it and I've seen others also report similar results.

Google "Reverse Longitudinal Chargeback" and come back with an apology.

Not sure if it's the same method as the TW phones, but I believe those used IMEI as the account # and you could confirm the last four digits by texting FOUR to 611611. Then you could request a PIN by texting NTP to 611611. (Reply may take a few minutes.)

I got one just now from Walmart at 27502 Zip code. Was tracking for few days and visited multiple Walmart. Most of them were showing in stock but their rep wasn't there to activate the plan. Here also rep wasn't there but Walmart Sales associate knobs to do it. Paid $84, activated right there and also sent UNLOCK sms and got the reply back that it will be unlocked on 19th Jan 2024

There was once I stayed at a hotel, when checking in, the front desk mentioned that there maybe a security deposit hold. I understand it could happen, although almost all the hotels I've stayed only use the card on file for any demage if it occurs. A week after I called hotel since $50 posted to my account was not refund. The hotel had to call a manager and told me manager just did a refund. A day later, another $50 charged to my account; i called again, this time I received $100 refund BUT another $50 charge again, i finally gave up talking to hotel and filled charge back of last $50. Problem solved, I was worried that if I call hotel again, another charge would show up.

Do you know if it will still unlock even after porting number out prior to the 60 days unlock period? Thank you! I am tempted to get a metro phone too.

Btw how much did you end up paying? And do you have to sign up for their postpaid plans and unlock policy?
