Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

So, ST employees at Walmart store are the only one that can do the deal, correct? Do you know if they're there at odd hours as well, like early evening? Thanks.
I asked the cell phone employee at my Walmart and he said they're usually there until 7 or 8 pm. So if you're there by 6pm you should be fine (at the ones in my area in SoCal, anyway)

Anyone who ordered from ST using PayPal and order stuck in limbo received a refund? I talked to them twice but support was useless as usual.
Just chargeback. Companies like this need to be punished.
Paypal will charge ST $30 fee for the dispute

Just go to the charge in your account and request a refund. Never received item and never received a tracking number. I paid with my PP balance and received refund instantly.

Filed dispute on 11/13. PayPal decided in my favor 11/22.
Ended up buying at Walmart. Scummy company and I don't plan on doing business with them in the future.

I thought with Verizon ownership they might have changed.

Why still Buy from Walmart if they are scummy?

Sorry, just came across this deal. Does the phone need to be switched on and connected to a tower during the first 30 days?

I'm from the other side of the border and wondering if I can go get this deal, activate the plan, switch off the phone for 60 days, turn it back on for it to be unlocked, and use it to my liking?

Bought one today at $98 (with tax). But I was warned by the rep that I had to pay two months service to get it unlocked, and if I don't pay the 2nd month, it will never be unlocked (even if I reactive the service later). Sounds a bit fishy...

Also want to ask a question that someone asked earlier: do I have to put in sim and make a few calls to get it unlocked? Is it possible just to keep it sealed for 60 days and then it will unlock automatically?

TIA

Yes, I did. I couldn't find what I was looking for though. I understand that I'd need to activate it for a monthly plan, text the number for activating the phone unlocking countdown and all... However, I'm just not sure if the phone has to be active/working and connected to a US tower once it's activated for a plan on day 1 at Walmart.

What I'd like to do is to activate the plan, drive over and shut the phone off, turn it on again on day 61, and hopefully it's all unlocked to be used with a Canadian sim.

Yes, that should work fine. It's been mentioned a few times in the tread, but with almost 300 pages, it may take a while to get there.

Nope
Policy is 60 days - no other option.

Thank you!

Yes, it was a little hard to sift through the many replies. Plus I'm very new to the website.

I did try and read the first few pages and came across different opinions. The following post by jetski777 said that I'd need to use it for a few days, but then there was another user on page 7 who said that you could turn it off and put it in the sock drawer. So I was a little confused about if it'll work out for me as I won't spend longer than a few hours and drive back to Canada.

Quote from jetski777:
So the steps would be:
1. Buy the phone, activate on Straight Talk (any 30 day plan)
2. Use for a few days
3. Don't have your account on auto-renew, plan cancels after 30 days
4. Wait for 61 days after your activation date
5. The iPhone SE is now unlocked automatically

Yeah, there are often some posts that differ in the details. Some users are very cautious and give recommendations based on that. If you use it for a few days, you'll notice if anything weird happens and you lose service or something. But it's not needed and once you activate it on the network, it should be good and many users from previous threads have done just that and put it away after the first day.
