Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

Ok i will try that , worst case i will try to dispute it on my Credit card .
Same thing happen to me, store manager (different WM) will not refund. Went back to the same store, ST open my WARP number, get the pin, and activate my line over the phone. Issue is fix, she called and make sure my line works.

Tried both. I get a email to reset password but it offers no info than just that. Put the sim in and turned on the phone. Stuck on SOS.
Same issue

I went to the local Walmart tonight ~7:15pm. They had the phones in stock, but no "phone specialist" employees who could activate the phone per the deal in-store. Pretty lousy.

I went to two different Walmart stores to ask for $49 deals. The first one told me to go to the one got the sales rep. I went to the second one and they didn't have sales rep. Someone worked at electronics dept to help to rain up $45 deals. She told me you don't have to go to the stores got the sale rep. None of them have it. You need to go the one and it has computer to take pre-paid activation and transaction. There was one computer terminal on the side in the back. You will see it.

Same issue that Walmart/ST employee did not activate correctly, Can I still trade in at Tmobile without any issues? Don't really care about the month plan

What plan do you use? US mobile also offers a shared data plan with unlimited call and text. Ex. You could split 6GB between both of you, for two lines it would be $26 total (no sneaky fees like Mint adds to your checkout). More info here, look under pay for what you need: https://www.usmobile.com/plans

This might be very YMMV but maybe the store you went to has the WARP system. Many (or most) stores that have the WARP system has dedicated cell phone reps. Usually, no cell phone rep = no WARP = no activation = no deal.

Yeah, it seems to be pretty much all over the place as far as the layout and whether reps are used. Two of the stores I went to had kind of a U-shaped counter with two WM registers side by side facing the front of the store and then the WARP register was facing sideways on one side of the U. Those stores both had T-ROC reps who handled activations. Another slightly smaller store (but still a "Supercenter") had only two registers side by side facing the front of the store, but one of those was the WARP system. And at that store, a Walmart employee was apparently cross-trained to use the WARP system and he was the one who did activations, not an outside rep. Also, others have mentioned that the Supercenter thing doesn't necessarily matter as far as which stores have WARP (although it's more common for them to have it). Basically, don't put too much faith into a lot of the generalizations about how things work, as it can vary significantly from store to store.

No, you don't. You have to go to bigger Walmart Supercenter to try it. You know they have it when you see the terminal on the table.
