Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

yeah i totally get that SkySol, yeah a future buyer woudlnt be surprised. but i guess i was trying to point more to the fact that its 50/50 full/half activations, and if its half you are still screwed as you gotta deal with returning etc, or at least having to go back to store and have them fully activate in WARP
Yeah, it sucks that some employees messed things up with the activation. Definitely a good idea to keep a lookout for any signs of a problem as soon as someone makes the purchase … it could easily be an unwelcome surprise otherwise. I suspect that the percent of messed up activations are probably being skewed here to seem much higher than they actually are though, as everyone with a problem is likely to post, while the vast majority of correct activations probably don't unless they're more regular SD posters.

i think useful stopgap would/could have been that the $49 doesnt show up unless it was Full. The fact that we were walking out with $49 gave the false impression and made us think we were full, when atleast handful of people were walking out with $49 Half activated.

Yeah, definitely nobody should be taking anything for granted when it comes to these ST / TF / TW deals. Always verify everything, especially if doing unconventional things like keeping them sealed.

I have activated my device and the device will unlock on 01/19/2024. I am planning a visit to India in December and want to give this to my mom. I won't be in India on January 19th. Can I remove the sim and give it to my mom for usage after January 19th?

Better to give android phones with larger screen to parents in India. Makes it easier for them to read text and type using larger keyboard. With 64gb only, this phone will get quickly be out of storage space once they use WhatsApp

We need to call them and ask them to unlock it, will be done in a day and no questions asked.
It will unlock on its own. No need to call.

Yes, that should be fine. Others have done similar things.

What I heard is that the phone and sim have to officially connected to their towers for future unlock. Otherwise, it'll have trouble later...

I've unlocked multiple new phones without ever inserting a SIM card or powering them on, as have others in previous threads (the only reason I ended up trying it). While there is always the potential for issues to crop up with unconventional methods, connecting to their towers is not required for the unlock.

They just need to be connected to the internet to receive the unlock signal I believe.

I bought an iphone SE3 on Saturday 11-18. I charged the phone, shut it down and put it the box .I tried to turn it on Thursday and it was so dead it wouldn't turn on until I charged it for 15-20 minutes. I thought, maybe I didn't really turn it off. So I charged it again and shut it off. Today it was stone dead again. The phone kills the battery when it's shut off.

I returned to Walmart today which is the 15th day and they would not exchange the phone. The store manager said the system won't allow him to exchange it. Walmart store managers aren't authorized to override anything.

I stopped at the Apple store. They looked at it and found nothing wrong. Nobody listens when I try to explain the problem. They told me to use the phone for a while and bring it back if it continues. The phone is defective and nobody willl do anything? A good reason to unseal your phone and check it out before it's too late.
