Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

Mine is unlocked when I checked this morning; I ordered that first weekend ($49/Silver plan) with $5 2nd day UPS air shipping, and activated the following monday night when I received it direct from Straighttalk.

FYI just to head off some concerns … these generally unlock on day 59 or 60, but it sometimes takes a few extra days. Automatic unlocks on days 61 to 63 are not uncommon and even as late as day 65 have been reported. So don't worry if it doesn't happen exactly when expected. Just give it a few more days if you're not in some urgent need to have it unlocked immediately. You could try calling them to expedite things, but that can be a headache all it's own that I'd avoid unless it's actually necessary. (This is for those who haven't actually gotten the unlock trigger from ST yet … of course some that don't see it on the phone immediately may just need to prompt it to update with a power-cycle, reset, or popping in a different carrier SIM, etc.)

Is it seamless on day 61 for the unlock? Just power up the SE and make sure you are connected to WiFi and it just shows its unlocked in the iPhone settings? Or do you have to force a device wipe/reset?
Mine still showed sim locked in phones settings but sickw free simlock check showed unlocked so it unlocked day early than the text message says since last month had 31 days.

Put different sim card in phones settings sim locked changed to no sim restrictions once changed sim card.

FYI, I checked sickw.com and it said my iPhone SE should be unlocked already but the phone sill showed "sim restriction" in settings. I just restarted the phone and then it shows "no sim restriction".

Yeah, a power cycle often takes care of it. Or inserting a SIM card from another company has also been reported by many as a quick way to kick it into updating the status.

Mine was supposed to be unlocked tomorrow, 1/9 based on 611 but it was already unlocked today, 1/8. I took out the original sim and turned it on to check the unlock status. Great deal!

So I texted "UNLOCK" to 611611 and got the following message "Great news!!! Your device is already unlocked." I already knew it was supposed to unlock by 01/08 and I was ensuring it had completed. However, when I try using a different sim card w/ active service through MetroPCS to make a phone call I get "Call Failed". I did try to reset the phone by doing the following: "Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset Network Settings," and when that didn't work I tried "Reset All Settings," but when I try making a call again, it still fails. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing the same issue as well.

--- Edit ---

When I checked under Carrier Lock, it shows "No SIM restrictions." So I tried using a different sim card through AT&T then low and behold, the phone actually works and is able to make phone calls. So is this phone not capable of working w/ all GSM related networks including T-Mobile?

Metro you have swap the device in metro app they don't let you swap the sim cards without IMEI. Worked fine calling on free Textnow tmobile sim with wifi turned off.

Oh, ok, cool. I would've never guessed that, duly noted. Thanks for the feedback.
