As a long time Canon user, and a current 5D Mark IV owner, I would recommend looking at the lens prices for the RF full frame lenses, before going into the RF ecosystem.

Any of the higher quality RF lens prices are eye watering. As an amateur photographer, I felt the EF mount L series lenses were reasonably affordable. But that is no longer the case with the RF line L series lenses.

And unlike the EF mount, where there was plenty of options for high quality third party lenses, Canon has stopped allowing third parties to create any RF mounts, so they pretty much dictate the price on the RF lenses.

So even though the camera is amazing, and you you might be getting a good deal on the body, take into account how much you'll have to sink into the native RF lenses in the future, unless of course you go with a EF mount adapter, but then you might be sacrificing some of the benefits of having the native RF mount lens.

I'm using the R6 Mk2 with both RF lenses and adapted EF lenses and the only perceivable difference (to me, at least, though a more experienced user might notice more) is that RF lenses have slightly faster autofocus. Other than that, I'm happy to save several thousand dollars by using EF lenses in the meantime.

need guidance, I am a hobbyist and looking for r8 for photo and video. is that a good option for a $1k lesser price than this?
Yes, the R8 is an incredible value for the AF and IQ it has. It may not have Image stability, quite a few lenses already have it.

It is a small body, meaning cu in the mold of the original 6D, which was the lightest and smallest FF DSLR when it was released about a decade ago… but with a much more robust feature set.

If I wasn't already invested into the Sony ecosystem, this is one of the cameras I would consider moving to.

No. The R6 has larger pixels so it has much cleaner pictures at high ISO.
I know it is apples and oranges, but my Olympus picture is bearly useful at anything higher than 3200 but R6 can produce very useful picture at even 102400.
If you application doesn't call for higher than 24MP, you will be pleasantly surprise by the imagine quality
While 24mp is more than adequate for non-Pro users or even some pro-users (depends on publishing versus digital audience versus shooting style), this camera does have noise issues but then most cameras do. Nothing a little bit of NR won't fix.

Site to buy canon gear lower than the required canon retail price from authorized dealers. No tax most of the time too.

I have a few DSLRs from years ago and some of the RF cameras.. I'm using almost EF lenses on my RF series camera almost exclusively and haven't had any issues other than the weight and size of them. They all perform MUCH better than on the DSLR bodies, and going the EF route will save a considerable amount of money (and open you up to a lot more options like the third party lenses).

I haven't found any benefits that are sacrificed by moving to RF, other than the battery (which is considerably less than on a DSLR) and that some of the bulkier/telephoto EF lenses can be awkward to hold on an RF whereas the heavier DSLR counters the balance out better

Every time I see a R6 or R6m2 deal, I always want to jump on it. But, the lack of primes that are both affordable and weather sealed, kill it for me. Fantastic camera none the less.

thanks, is the low light photography factor consideration is due to missing image stabilization inside the body or the processor issue ? I think image stabilization can be taken care with lens or using tripod. Not sure how much difference it would make, but I am interested in low light photography too.
Exactly. But if you're using a tripod, it really doesn't matter. You can also use IS lenses to provide some image stabilization.

I got the R8 a week ago and I love it ! Negative is the battery life. It can be overcome with several options. If you are hobbyist then R8 probably is sufficient. I have had Canon cameras since 20D with 8.2 megapixels to Canon 5DSR with 50 megapixels. That means I have lots of EF lenses and the R8 was definitely most fun and syncing with my phone was amazing. Was able to upload pix fast. That meant low battery life. I love the autofocus on the R8. This R6II has longer battery life and has body stabilization. R8 does not. But all my previous Canon cameras never had In Body Stabilization anyway. Sony started the trend and it crops pictures....R8 does have electronic stabilization. I was able to use EF lenses on R8 using EF to R adapter made Meike and the bonus is that it has Neutral Density Filter and UV filter. I am using UV filter as protector for the R8 camera as the sensor is quite exposed.

It must depend on the state because in my email they said no tax for shipping to Oregon (where I live).

Why not use the EF primes, if you already have them? All it takes is a single EF adapter ($129 from Canon or any of the retailers.. often seen at $99), and any EF lens would work on RF bodies, and by most accounts they work better on RF bodies than EF bodies.
