except that this $1500 2021 macbook pro with 32gb ram and the m1 pro will run circles around a $1599 2023 macbook pro with 8gb ram and the m3. It can run more external monitors, it has 4x the RAM, the SSD is faster, it has TB4 ports, etc. It is quite simply a more capable machine.

The more comparable 2023 model (m3 pro, base CPU, 36gb ram) is going to set you back $2400.

Price seemed like a great deal about a month ago, for this configuration and for being not refurbished, from woot here https://slickdeals.net/f/16975204-apple-14-2-macbook-pro-m1-pro-8-core-cpu-14-core-gpu-32gb-ram-512gb-ssd-late-2021-1499-99-at-woot

There will probably be better deals coming soon, but I don't want to wait and either not get a better deal on this configuration, or miss out on a deal so I'm going to go ahead and pick this up.

I don't think so. If it was refurb it would say in the title or description

Weird that's it's only a 8c chip with 32GBs ram. The 10c is a significant increase in processing power.

yeah i wish i had that too. i got the one off woot and i wouldve waited if my last one didnt break. since the m3 came out i've been refreshing to see if i can get a better deal while my return window is active but i'll probably just be keeping this one but the next couple of years.

Got it. Got confused by the resetting purchase date thing, I thought that was only for refurb items

I got the woot deal before the M3 announcement. Brand new w 1y Apple warranty. But I'm going to return it and get the new M3P. It's more expensive (1800 right now from Adorama) but I usually get the latest model. And I'll lose a lot more money selling the M1P in 2 years than the M3P in 2 years

This is 8-core CPU M1 Pro, not that much stronger than base M1. Meh.....

This is perfect for most people , but that M3 by most accounts is a beast .
