I may be in the market for a budget (sub $500) 65" 4K television. What brands should I be focusing on if I want reliability? I normally have the tv on 6-8 hours a night. My 1080p Insignia developed a thin white streak about six months ago and I bought it Dec. 2016.

I got the 55" version of this about a month ago for $319. The Samsung smart menu system is pretty good and 4K over Wi-Fi works well. The TV speaker sound is listenable, though better when I connect over Bluetooth to an amp. Airplay works well. I haven't had much luck getting Spotify to play any sound if that's important to you. Brightness and contrast is fine but not exceptional but it's a pretty good budget TV for the price. I don't have any regrets for the price I paid.

Has there been significant progress in tech compared to 4K TVs from 2017? I want to replace my 2017 Samsung MU7000 series TV and don't need the best of tech like OLED or 120hz refresh rate.
I bought the 50" version of this about 3 months ago. I had one serious issue with streaming and playing movies and TV - It was just too damn dark watching movies. And believe me, as a 26 years in IT nerd, I was tinkering with ALLLLL of the brightness, contrast and other picture settings. My kid and I looked at each other - we couldn't believe how poor the contrast and brightness were. Just to reiterate, everything was already DARK, and then dark scenes were awful. Interestingly, no problems as a PC monitor, web browsing, that kind of function.
We bought a Hisense 50" U6HF on Amazon and it was incredible out of the box. Fired up all the same movies and videos we were experimenting with on the Samsung and... Perfect. Returned the Samsung to Walmart and never looked back.
I remember reading somewhere that these "Crystal" series Samsung that Walmart carries are simply a lower tier, and only "Samsung" by name. Did I have "a bad one"? Don't know, but I sadly wouldn't recommend (or at least would say be wary of) this line of TV.
