Just an FYI for who work more than they game, the 38" IPS version for the same price is a better all-purpose option. No burn-in worries, sharper text, more screen.
This rates as the best gaming monitor on rtings and I think 1800r curve at 49 inches is just too little of a curve on the Samsung. The other Odyssey options are 1000r but not the OLED 49 incher unfortunately.

1800r with a smaller monitor (this one) makes more sense for a PC gamer imo. Optimal viewing distance of a 49 inch 1800r is nearly 6 feet, which isn't practical
This one is way Superior for gaming. The Costco 49 inch is not OLED and it's better to use as a work monitor emulating three screens of my opinion. though I'd recommend the G9 variant which is often on sale in the low 900s

Most discussing this or the 49" G9 OLED from Samsung. Which should I opt for? Mainly want it for productivity and gaming

AW3821DW is as good as it gets for an all-purpose monitor. Has the G-Sync module and 144hz. Superior 21:10 ratio and higher resolution which makes it exceptional for both work and gaming.

About same price on sales. Last year it was below $700 with stacked discounts.

Before pickup up this monitor I had 2 of the Samsung g7 monitors before returning both. I know it's not the exact model you asked about but I had so many problems with screen flickering and intermittent loss of signal that I was pulling my hair out. Honestly I don't think I'll be willing to trust a Samsung monitor any time soon. On the other hand, I am absolutely loving this display

Good points, but you should mention that it's IPS and not QD-OLED.

I have the aw3821dw and just bought this one. I use the computer setup primarily for gaming so my reasoning was primarily to maximize frames per second and have less screen for my eyes to scan with competitive games. The lower resolution is better for getting higher frames per second at higher quality settings. Also this being an OLED and having a higher refresh (165 vs 144) are big decision factors. My work laptops only have integrated graphics and I was unable to to get better than 30 FPS on the aw3821dw over HDMI so didn't actually use that monitor for work despite it being a nice size. I agree with others that if you're worried about having static images or working 8 hours a day on the monitor, I would opt for a non OLED.

I switched from the AW38 to the 49" G9 OLED and did have to do some tuning to get picture to look acceptable for work. I work 8+ hours a day on it and no issues now - had some eye strain at first but went away after 3 days. Fine text is definitely not as good as my AW38 and I definitely questioned whether OLED was a good choice but am happy with it now. The workspace is far superior for my uses where I often have multiple excels, product data sheets, price lists side by side etc. I also have a secondary 15" monitor below that I set to be my only display output if I have to run some multi-hour task/installation that I periodically have to do. I game like <10 hours a week but gaming experience definitely a step above.

I bought both because I was torn between the the two. But after comparing side by side I decided to go with AW3821DW. IN normal content, NOT blacks or dark videos (that's all YouTubers show), I feel they are comparable. In Microcenter I actually preferred the IPS because I was web browsing and looking at pages on a white/light background. But I was torn, because I wanted latest tech. But I'm happy with this AW3821DW, so big and wide. For text fringing, it doesn't matter. I have a work IPS monitor in portrait mode which has text fringing, BUT you have look so close. But in arms length, it's normal, like really the same as my other IPS monitor (Dell P3421W). Either way you win. Just pick one and enjoy it.

Wow, I've never seen you post a question but have been on the receiving end of your deals. Thank you for all the posts you've provided.

As to your question, it's a matter of preference. Personally, I've had this 34" oled monitor, and I currently have the G9 (got the $804 SD that was recently posted). I personally actually prefer this 34" oled. The 49" to my eyes is too much, but I'm sure many would prefer it. I'm debating currently on what to do, as I'll need to either return the Samsung, or sell it private party.

So torn. I just got the G9 OLED coming from 34 VA panel 165hz. Seem to like 34 curved sized better for gaming but love the amount of space I have with 49 for work. I use 3-24" monitors for work, so 49 oled can replace both gaming and work monitors.
Torn?? Replace it man VA is not that great with faster movements. You'll see ghosting and such

Got an open box at BB for $655, listed as good but the screen was perfect. Sub-pixel layout is definitely not ideal but I think I'm getting used to it. Jury is still out as to whether I'll return, but games and high quality videos definitely look great. If only Samsung would release a qd-oled panel that is as nice as the panel they have on their new Galaxy Book 3 Ultra laptops, I would buy in a heartbeat.
