Check out this detailed reddit post with a breakdown of the different tiers of retro handhelds, very helpful: https://www.reddit.com/r/SBCGamin...kingdom_a/

Also, YT check out Retro Game Corps, Russ's videos are super informative!

I just got one of these in the last month. For context, I also have a Miyoo Mini Plus and a Steam Deck. This has definitely been my go to device for PS1 emulation and below. Much more comfortable to hold than the two other devices for retro games. It's not quite pocketable, but it's been an amazing experience at home.

N64, Dreamcast, PSP and DS have all been a decent experience to a degree, though I would look for a more powerful device if those systems are what you are really after.

Decent deal on my current favorite retro gaming handheld. Installed with JelOS. Software runs well

Wow… 30,000 games…. How is your son doing in school?
Well, how are you doing?
The only things we know about @sickysickybrah 's kid is that he is the poster's 9 year old son, that the poster said that the kid is into Mario and Sonic games and that he 'loves it'.
The poster did mention that the system comes with 30,000 games and informed us that we should absolutely get the 128gb card. We also found out that despite the 30k package of games additional Mario games were manually added.
We don't know some pretty important things like how many total games the 9 year old is playing and for how long they play.
If I gave you a typical 9 year level read and comp test ---> you know where you read a paragraph and then answer a question about 'what happened', how would you do?

I'm completely joking around of course!!!

Really school in a great many cases is for creating good employees. You know folks who happily, diligently or perhaps desperately generate the 99% to hand off to the 1%. Not exactly a high bar. I'm not advocating skipping school entirely to play video games, still it must be noted that very often school is shyte.

Ok, looks like I am going to buy this thing. In the spirit of not spending money unnecessarily, what is the best configuration, meaning I am going to assume that unless I buy the 16/32/64/128 expansion card, the basic machine will not have any/many games. I am aware that the expansion card that they supply is a POS, but is it relatively easy to find/download roms onto a card that I purchase separately? Any other advice will be appreciated. Thanks!!

Powkiddy x55 can be purchased from the manufacturer on Aliexpress for $61 (with no roms) up to $73 (128 GB). The RGB30 (better for GB/GBC due to 1:1 ratio) is $58 (no roms) to $70 (128GB). I can't post the link because mods will remove it. But you can type these searches into Google:
powkiddy flagship store x55 site:aliexpress.com ==> price should be $84.85
powkiddy official store rgb30 site:aliexpress.com ==> price should be $82.28

Use coupon code AEUS8 ($8 off $50) or AEUS15 ($15 off $100, if ordering with 128GB SD). Some CB sites offer 12% back.

Go to aliexpress.com. Search for rgb30. On the filters on the left, set minimum price to 82, and check the box next to 11.11 sale. Pick the item listed for $82.28, sold by "Powkiddy Official Store". Add to cart. At checkout, enter code AEUS8. Total will be $82.28-$24 = $58.28 + tax. If you get 12% CB, that takes another $7 off to make it $51. If you used AEUS8 already, there are other $8 off $50 codes available such as rakuZen8 (replace the Z with a T).

Sorry if I was unclear. The RGB30 (4") is $58. The X55(5.5", this deal) is $61.
To get the X55: Go to AliExpress. Search for powkiddy X55. Filter so that minimum price is $80, and check the box for 11.11 sale. You should see one sold by Powkiddy Flagship Store for $84.xx. Use coupon AEUS8 at checkout.

ok, Thanks, got the x55 without SD at $61 before 3rd party coupon. But AEUS8 could not combine with 3rd part coupon.

How does one download/create ROM for this? seems ppl is saying the SD comes with the unit is not good?

This is my first handheld so I am pretty noob. From Googling yesterday: this is a guide for setting the device up: https://retrogamecorps.com/2023/0...ter-guide/

Supposedly the SD cards included in these devices are unreliable so should be replaced. You can get a boot microSD that is 16GB for $8 (https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ul...B074B4P7KD) and a larger microSD for the ROMs. I was thinking of getting this 256GB drive for $14 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0897BBCYP/ [amazon.com]

You will also want a microSD card reader (USB or may be built into your laptop) to transfer the OS files and ROMs.

It seems like you format the two cards, flash the OS onto the smaller card, then boot from that while having the empty 2nd card inserted as well. It then builds a directory structure that you can drop your ROMs and the emulator BIOS files into.

If you want ROMs, Google "tiny best set go" or "retro roms best set" (larger but has some PSP) and get the torrent from the archive.org website.

For BIOS files, it looks like you can Google "retroarch bios pack."

I am not sure why the coupon didn't work for you, I just checked and was still able to add it to my cart for $61 + tax.

My bad, it's $61 with AEUS8, but the other 3rd party coupon wont stack on top.
thanks, might pull the trigger from aliexpress then

Almost half the phones are iPhones and you cant download emulators for them. Also, they don't run as smooth on many adroid phones because it's using so many apps at once.
Plus, where are the controls on a phone???
