That's not how it works you have to return the same one you bought from that place. One time I bought two airtags from best buy and needed to return one when I went there the guy scanned it and said it's not the one attached to your receipt even though it was mew unopened thet didn't took it and needed the same one because the receipt is attached to the serial number at many places for these items.

Thanks for the info...but I don't think it's devices because I currently have 16 Airtags and 4 devices on the Find My app right now. I'm assuming it's 16 Airtags (what they list as "items" under the Find My app).

Just came back from my local Staples. First one ran out 1 hour after store opened, but I went to another one a few miles away and was able to grab one for $70 before taxes. Thanks OP!

It was pretty sketchy. I was the first one in the store right at opening and I got one (airtag 4 pack), and the person who followed me 1 min later was told they were out of stock.

They had to get everything from the back so it seemed like ymmv
