Regardless if you decide to buy this particular unit or not, one KEY specification you should locate prior to purchase with any home "A/V type" Receiver:

Bolded effect added by me for emphasis -

Power output (All channels):

200 W/Ch (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 10% THD,1-ch driven)

90 W/Ch (8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.08% THD,
2-ch driven, FTC)

Hope this information is insightful / helpful.

God damnit. I got burned hard by a bad HDMI board from Onkyo years ago. It was a giant recall that the old heads in here will remember. But for this price I'm thinking of rolling the dice again. SMH I'll never learn.

Slim to none.

This is the cheapest I've ever seen this receiver.

Just did a chat. Adorama only shoulders return shipping if the item arrives damaged or defective.
And, if you don't know already, their policy is to refund, not replace. Maybe some get lucky and talk them into a replacement, but my experience on another deal recently was a refund (even though the CS I worked with on the return implied there would be a replacment).

Not a huge deal in the end, but can mean possibly missing out on a deal if you get a non-working item, which shouldn't happen often but it can.

Can I use zone B on this system as a Chromecast audio? I basically want to use the receiver in the family room and then run the zone be outs to speakers that are on the back porch.

Not sure if this was meant to be helpful or condescending. Of course I can read through a manual, but that's more difficult to do when you don't have a unit in front of you. I don't think it's unreasonable to see if someone has a unit and whether or not they know if this is a capability.

I've got the unit. You can cast directly to this unit. Back in the day I had it as part of a home speaker group and it was synced with 0 lag. But I think there was some latency issues using it for chrome cast audio while watching the videos on my phone, like a second. In the end the cast feature worked great for music, great if your casting YouTube to your smart TV+reciever and bad with phone+reciever.

Iirc zone two is a set of pre amps and requires another reciever. It would be possible to use zone two as a chrome cast. It's not a smart option though. You just have zone 2 on our not and it plays sound to zone 2, both, or just the regular speakers. and you can't have 1 input playing the TV on zone 1 plus cast to zone 2. it's one input/output.

personally I gave up zone 2 and just bought a Google audio adapter. so much better. but zone 2 would work great for extra wall speakers

Had an onkyo HTS system (5.2) for 10 years and lost it during the move. Was hesitating to go with adorama ( compared to other retailers - costco, bestbuy for returns) but hoping adorama does a good job and stands up to the name.
Thanks OP, looks like a good deal - ordered one!

No you don't.
As a matter of fact I would suggest buying a slightly older used AVR that has the features you need.

Either of those receivers are overkill, you're paying for features you don't need/use.

That's an entry level satellite speaker package, a new receiver isn't gonna change that.
You seem really knowledgable about these and I also saw you comment on the Pioneer LX350 deal that is on the FP so this is directed to you (or anyone else that can chime in). Years ago I purchased a Onkyo ht-s9100thx system. It was the 7.1 setup with speakers and all. I'm looking to upgrade the receiver to handle better video and give good sound. I jumped on the pioneer deal and bought but now I rethinking that since maybe the speakers I haven't are entry level (I don't' honestly know). Do you have any idea or suggestions based on what I have?

I own this receiver. I paid $400 for it and it has served me well. I'd like to clarify a few things for potential buyers.

1) It's power rating is not an issue. I have it configured in a 5.1.2 (7 speakers, 2 subs connected by a y-connector) with an open floor plan and have no issues with volume being too low or my speakers clipping. In addition, I have 4 speakers connected in parallel to Zone 2. No issues there either. I own a separate amplifier but cannot use the app to control the volume of Zone 2 when using an amp so I use the integrated amp.

2) Onkyo was bought by Voxx. Voxx also owns Klipsch, and you'll find settings specifically for Klipsch speakers. Voxx has numerous businesses under it's umbrella so the brand is stable. No need to worry about this at all.

There are some settings that are not available in the default menu. To access them, you'll need to access the menu via your network. There are expanded options for 4k 120hz devices. Once I learned how to use the receiver it's been smooth sailing. There are no preouts other than for Zone 2.
Do you have a link on how to do this?

My belief is speakers produce the sound we hear.

If you want to improve that finding the best sounding speakers to you that you can afford would be my suggestion on where to start.

Spending the majority of your budget there will yield optimal performance IMO.
If you need a receiver while you figure that out.
I would suggest finding a used one that has a features you need.

I have this. Bought for $499 from Costco 2 years ago when it had just been released. For this price it's a steal! The standout feature for me is the zone 2 HDMI out which is not something you see even at the original price point.

Just an fyi from someone who has owned a LOT of AVR's over the years, don't buy one based on "sound quality" if you're looking at models from the major manufacturers. You couldn't pick one from the other in a blind test with all controls set to flat when comparing similarly equipped models. Spend more for better room EQ/correction. It's is worth it! Buy based on features and power requirements. Most mainstream consumer speakers designed for typical residential rooms only require 100 watts or so to get loud enough. Don't fret over 100 vs 150 watts. Unless you have very low sensitivity or low impedance speakers, you won't notice the difference, ESPECIALLY if you're using a powered subwoofer. And if you do have a combination of low sensitivity AND low impedance speakers, you should be looking at separate amps if you're in a medium to large room. An AVR would likely be ok in a small room…think small bedroom converted to listening room or small home theater.
Do you recommend this for connecting with Klipsch c16 speakers? They have power handling of 160W in peak whereas this offers 200w and both have 8 ohms impedance.

It will be fine. I'm using 45W rated speakers with a 100W receiver.

Unless you're cranking the volume so loud your neighbours can hear it. If that's the case, your gonna need hearing aids sooner than later.

WARNING: IF YOU PURCHASE AN ONKYO PRODUCT FROM AN UNAUTHORIZED INTERNET DEALER, YOUR ONKYO WARRANTY WILL NOT BE VALID.

I couldn't locate Adorama as the authorized dealer to sell Onkyo products in onkyoUSA website. Onkyo's 2 year warranty on parts and repair don't apply if its not purchased from authorized dealer. Though this is a good price and familiar name, can't risk with electronics.

It's perfectly fine. Speakers draw power from an amp. Amps don't force feed power to speakers.
It better to have too much power than not enough.
