I was looking for other options to get the Panasonic Player 4k BluRay player DP-UB820-K for $347.99 as I missed out on the previous deal. (The price has been hovering previously around $400.) I found it popped up again, but now with multiple retailers too. All with free shipping.

You're comparing a game console to a dedicated 4K Blu-Ray player. The UB820 has the HDR Optimizer and a better processor. Moreover, you get Dolby Vision with it. Don't get me wrong, the PS5 is great for most people. But a lot of 4K Blu-Ray collectors are enthusiasts and want the absolute best picture quality they can get. That's where the UB820 comes in.

I paid $420 for this last Christmas time and it was definitely worth it. I was looking to get a player for my living room and jumped on this. It's worth it if you have a Dolby Vision capable TV and have a lot of 4K discs.

I seem to remember talk like that about vinyl records back in the late 1980s. Same for SACDs around 2010. Both are still around though with a thriving used market. Physical 4K discs may become a niche or used market, but demand will be around for quite some time.

They seem to default to just slapping a sticker on a box and sending it on its way. If you specify that the item "ships in Amazon packaging" the will stick it in one of their boxes, but often with no padding inside. I just received a 27" monitor this way, the product box was just bouncing around inside of a much larger Amazon box with one flat sheet of paper as "padding".

I can't say for sure. I don't remember the last time I purchased electronics from Amazon. It might have been there and I just didn't see it.

I did have that option to ship in Amazon packaging, it was located at the very bottom in the app close to the place order button. It was by default without the Amazon packaging, so you had to manually select it .
