Xbox One S also won't play about 1/3 of the 4k UHD Blu-rays that I own. It just throws an error. Panasonic has no problem with the same discs.

This comment always comes up with these high end 4K player deals. There's a lot that benefit a home theater nut with a good sound system and top end flagship TV while an Xbox One S won't push that higher end picture and sound. It's like saying why buy a Ferrari/Lambo when you can get a Porsche or a SUV that can get you to places.

Dolby Vision - this is the high selling point
HCX
Studio Master Sound
HLG

Overall higher bitrate with much better PQ paired with the latest TV technologies. Suppose you want the best PQ. It's a no-brainer.

Why not just get a Xbox One S? It should be much cheaper now, and it's actually a good Blu-Ray player

if you own a premium tv and end up using a basic bluray player or stream only, you kind of wasted your money.

I agree with all the comments on the benefits of this but I hesitate to get a blu-ray player released in 2018. I guess if it supports all the latest audio and video standards that's all that matters.

Is Dolby vision really worth the $200+ premium over the UB420? Or is there another difference that justifies the price?

I ended up buying an open box 420 for $160 and have been very pleased but I am wondering if maybe I should upgrade. But can't really see Dolby Vision being worth $200+ more.

This isn't an issue with network or USB firmware update capabilities.

I used this player with an LG OLED C9 65 and see no difference in terms of picture quality between 4K disc and streaming on Apple TV. Not worth the upgrade in my case.

Anybody knows what players support 100GB BDXL discs besides Panasonic UB900? My UB400 does not unfortunately.

That's very fair. You'd probably be better off getting a budget tv next time too. Or just a bigger tv overall instead of a nicer panel.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe either console supports Dolby Vision from disks, only from streaming services. That was a big motivator for me.
