Heat is generally not an issue if you are just playing games on the Ally. If you were pounding drive benchmarks, then the heat would be an issue and you'd probably get thermal throttling. I put in a 2TB 2230 drive and have had no problems. No heatsink required (stock doesn't have one either). Lots of people using right angle adapters and 2280 drives without issue.
