1. Get one number for phone calls and texts ONLY. You are known to others (friends, banks, insurance companies...) by that number. Use a very cheap plan that has little to no data for it.
2. Get another number for data ONLY. Switch to the cheapest you can find every a few months. You are always a new user because you don't need to port in your number for it.
Not if you have a "dual SIM" phone.

With two SIMs active in one phone, you can use one for calls/texts, and the other for data.

5GB/month or total for 3 months? It's not very clear.

can anyone confirm if they had activated boost sim card outside of USA? also is there an option for me to activate eSIm using the phyiscal sim details outside of USA? A little time sensitive question, so appreciate any insights.

PS: i did reach out to boost customer service over chat and the response isnt very clear.

Pretty sure you can, as the activation process is to update internal databases. You can activate a sim card while your phone is powered off. The question is, why do you want to do that?

i have my current mint mobile service active until december 10th and by then, i will be out of country. I am planning to activate the boost mobile by porting out the number from mint mobile and not sure how the whole process will work out with physical sim, as my understanding is, it needs to have a cellular reception with native base as opposed to being in foreign country. I dont mind activating via eSIm, but not sure how this physical sim plan data will be carried over to eSim..

Calls/texts and data are actually two separate things. You can have your primary phone number with a cheap (almost) call/text only plan and use one of these for data. When the time is up, there's no need to port the number. Just pretend that you are a new user.

The additional call/text plan is of course at a cost ($5~10 per month), but you also don't need to get worried about things going wrong when porting your number. If the two lines are on different networks, you also have a better chance of still having network access in rural areas. Overall, I'm happy with paying that.

I can't answer whether the Boost physical SIM needs local cell reception to completely activate, but you can port to an e-SIM on another network (I used Tello to port into, they have 100min call and no data for $5/month, which you can use as a placeholder for your phone number until you can get back to the U.S.). The e-SIM activated without needing to connect to cell first, and then you request a port-in from Tello, which requires getting your Mint account, port out pin, and maybe IMEI.

EDIT: It is possible you may only need a Wifi connection in order to activate your Boost Physical SIM when in another country, but someone who knows for sure should verify this.

Got your point now. But you need to carry two phones all the time. I don't like that part.
