2. Get another number for data ONLY. Switch to the cheapest you can find every a few months. You are always a new user because you don't need to port in your number for it.
With two SIMs active in one phone, you can use one for calls/texts, and the other for data.

The additional call/text plan is of course at a cost ($5~10 per month), but you also don't need to get worried about things going wrong when porting your number. If the two lines are on different networks, you also have a better chance of still having network access in rural areas. Overall, I'm happy with paying that.
EDIT: It is possible you may only need a Wifi connection in order to activate your Boost Physical SIM when in another country, but someone who knows for sure should verify this.
