Hoping this is a good one to ask on. I'm an ex-golfer who is looking to get back on the dragon after 20years off. Back in my day, we didn't have interwebs and had to whittle our golf clubs out of mastodon bones. As an avid slick-dealer, the only way I could enjoy the game is if I knew I got a good deal.

Any recommendations for places to watch? This post seems like a good place to start but I don't want to get caught in the "hey buy from us, we're having a sale (just like we do every week)".
If you're a member of Costco, they have the best golf set for the money for a beginner. You won't believe what you get for $500.

I'd probably go to FB for the marketplace and local golf groups. It's rare that there are great golf deals on items you actually want at that moment, assuming you're okay with used equipment.

Golf equipment groups on Facebook will get you the best deals. However, Callaway Preowned is about the best value for money you'll find when buying used or slightly used. Most clubs I've ordered from there are either brand new or have such little wear that it looks brand new.

As noted by dwgeardown with the link from cbpark2004 the Edge set is really good (this is what every reviewer is saying), OP put the link to the used one: https://slickdeals.net/?adobeRef=d75be124839e11ee8e8746a353a836490003&sdtid=17062084&sdop=1&sdpid=16... you can save 20% buying the "very good" which in my experience are at least really, really good.

Go get fitted or do what I did and go hit a bunch of different brands at Dicks/golf galxy/pga store snd narrow down what you want. Then go hunt down the clubs on the internet. For what its worth, my whole bag was pieced together from Callaway preowned over the last few years.

This is the best advice. If you're patient, you can find sets that match your fit requirements and they will likely be at least half off. Not sure where in the country you live, but the fact that it's now fall/winter and most of us won't be able to golf for a while, you have time to look. Ebay, Mercari, Marketplace, etc.

Golfworks is pretty good too and is very inexpensive compared to other name brands because they don't do sponsorshops or advertising.

Callaway Preowned is one of the best preowned golf sites in my opinion. They undersell their quality so buying cheaper "value" clubs usually still gives you a great condition club. Their customer service has been great and their black Friday deals are usually better than average. Also, if you go over to the golf subreddit, they have an employee that lurks there, you can send your order details to him and he'll hand pick your club for you. Talk about customer service

Go to a pro shop, get sized, figure out your swing speed, see what feels good to you, then check out FB marketplace and compare it to ebay. Most people wont outplay that Callaway set at Costco for 500 bucks.

If you want a one and done solution its the standard now.

I pieced mine together from FB and a local pro shop. Around 2500 bucks when new, I'm in it for around 800 plus a regrip.
TM Sim2 driver, Callaway FTI 3W, Maverick 5, Titleist t300 irons, Kirkland wedges, Odyssey white hot putter. All in a cheap nike stand bag. Bought all used, the older gen stuff people give it away at proshops, got my fti 3w for 20 bucks.
