1. Trade in device and use that credit to pay off phone in 36months while keeping phone plan. For UU on verizon this comes up to (100avg x 36) - 300 Walmart GC
2. No trade in, but pay off phone immediately within 3 days of receiving to avoid activation fees. For the iphone 15 pro, this comes up to be 999- 300 Walmart GC regardless what plan you choose.
Follow steps included this wiki to port out your locked device to other carrier.
I have no horse in this race but here is the email you get from Walmart. Watch your SPAM FOLDERS.

Same for 2021 and 2022.
AT&T details
Order/cancel? Activation starts on ship date (or store activation date). AT&T does not prorate after 3 days, so if you don't receive the device by the 3rd day you have to pay for the entire month of service.
To get the activation fees waived (if you're not cancelling within 3 days) be sure to sign up for AARP. It can be free or almost free

- Contact AT&T over chat and ask them to waive your activation fee since it's an AARP benefit. This will save $35/line.
- Set up autopay from att.com or MyAtt app to save $10/line/month (debit; or credit -$5/month).
- Do you have AT&T fiber home internet? Contact AT&T over chat to "bundle" home internet plus wireless for a $20/month discount. You can also sign up for home internet after getting wireless to receive the same $20/month discount. There are loads of sign-up offers include $350 gift card back for new customers https://slickdeals.net/f/17073514-new-at-t-fiber-customers-purchase-at-t-fiber-internet-plan-300mbps-get-up-to-350-in-reward-cards-or-logitech-g-cloud-gaming-handheld-device-6-200-reward-card
- Pay off installment plan from MyAtt app or at att.com. You can do this as soon as activated/device ships.
- Turn on iPhone and let it activate with the pushed AT&T eSim (should be automatic once connected to wifi). Make a phone call.
- Transfer the AT&T eSim to another unlocked iPhone. "Use eSIM Quick Transfer on iPhone" Procedure https://support.apple.c
om/en-us/HT212780
- Make a call on the unlocked iPhone. Check in myAtt or att.com and check every few minutes until the unlocked iPhone shows up in your account as your device.
- Request unlock https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ as a non-ATT customer, with non-ATT phone# and email for the new iPhone
- Check email and click to acknowledge unlock request. May take a few minutes to receive this.
- Wait for unlock approval email. It could take only a few minutes or up to a day
- new iPhone will be unlocked once you try a different provider eSIM. You can either use a new eSIM or transfer one from your other iPhone.
- If you want to, cancel AT&T service over chat or phone so that you don't go beyond 3 days post activation. If you instead want to keep the service, do everything I mentioned above to bring your monthly cost down.
Edit: AT&T chat is closed on the weekend I called reseller support and they refused to cancel the line and said I had to wait 30 days. I had to port out to another carrier.- Call *PORT on the new iPhone to get a porting pin. You also need your wireless account number (displayed when you login to att.com).
- I had a great experience porting to usmobile.com for their 50 day free trial. Just sign up and fill out the details including port (AT&T Postpaid, account number, port pin). Transfer completed in minutes!
Verizon details
- check out the recent iPhone 13 community wiki on unlock (60 days on iPhone 14/15!), pay off, 3 day rule etc. for Verizon
https://slickdeals.net/f/17028796-verizon-or-at-t-128gb-apple-iphone-13-new-or-added-line-8-30-mo-for-36-months-299-total-more-free-s-h
- We haven't found a way to unlock the iPhone 14/15 like we did the 13 because it has an eSIM assigned that gets activated on boot, and no physical SIM card. Also the phones are showing Verizon locked and not flex reseller policy. It will automatically unlock 60 days post activation however.

My only issue was the delay on the GC but it has been solved with a couple phone calls to Wally.
Make sure the CSR confirms and prints the paperwork where it states you are eligible for the promo GC that goes with the phone you pick to finance
- what is the best way to unlock the phones as both are e-sim? i read about at&t, but does it work with esim? If someone can refer to the chat thread, would be helpful.

The reason you get that error because you just pay off the device today. Give the system 24hrs to process the payment before you can submit request to unlock.
"You can't unlock your device until your installment plan is paid off. If you pay off your device as part of your monthly bill, wait until the start of your next bill period to unlock it.
Want to pay off your device early? Make sure your number has been active on the device for at least 60 days. Then, sign into your account to review and pay off your installment plan. Wait 48 hours after you make your final payment to submit a new unlock request."
Any suggestions? Should I continue to wait?
Move the number back to the locked phone - perhaps it needs to be there longer?
Call AT&T?

If you don't have an AT&T/mvno eSIM, you can sign up for one at h2owireless.com with the $18 plan (was $10 yesterday) and activate it right away. This would be on another unlocked iPhone (that you would do the eSIM transfer with).
You can also try tracfone or straight talk, they have eSIM online but I'm not sure which network you'll get. If it's not AT&T you could be screwed.

- activate a new sim from h2owireless on an unlocked iphone
- do a sim transfer to iphone 14plus
- request unlock as a non at&t customer
Does this sound right? Do I need to transfer esim back to the unlocked phone before requesting unlock ?
Just spoke to customer service agent. Since I transferred sim to iPhone yesterday , it locks sim transfer from IPhone back to Android for 72 hours. He said iPhone to iPhone does not get locked as they are done from phone to phone. So if I want to transfer back before Thursday I probably have to go to store again.
I tried to ask if IMEI was in database and told him about the not in database error. He can only see error as with phone attached to line so he cannot see not in database error but he says phone looks like its in database
Dont have time to go to store today but maybe will do one more transfer and try one more time to unlock. Then not sure if it is worth it to just sell locked or trade in or try and return if it fails.

Check in the Verizon app if you can re-issue an eSIM for your new iPhone. That could possibly break the one assigned to the iPhone for initial activation.
