Requires AT&T service and phone payment plan. You may want to include that in your title.

Looks like I am one the many that got their phone not set up properly. I purchased online for Verizon service. Phone is fully paid off and line cancelled. Ultimately I want to move it to T-Mobile. Looking at below I am not convinced after 60 days it will actually unlock.

What are my bet options? do the Tracfone esim option. Other ideas?

Below is the Sickw data points.

Replaced Device: No Warranty Status; Limited Warranty
Estimated Purchase Date: 2023-11-24
Demo Unit: No
Loaner Device: No
Replacement Device: No
Refurbished Device: No
Purchase Country: United States
Locked Carrier: 4000 - US Reseller Flex Policy
Sim-Lock Status: Locked
Check my post just above this one. If you want a no-risk 60 day unlock then tracfone/verizon is best option. Otherwise AT&T mvno and immediate unlock.

Not yet. Inactive AT&t physical sim can't be converted to ESIM. BTW phone is not paid off yet. Will try the h2o method soon.
Also H2O method doesn't work because the ESIM can't be added to a "locked" phone. Considering finding a friend with AT&T to borrow ESim ... or else just activating verizon with another VZ eSIM of mine.

A few questions. Does any walmart do the cell phone upgrades or do I need to find specific ones? Tried to do it online but it said I needed to go in store to do the upgrade.

After I upgrade - what do I tell at&t when I turn in my phone for trade in? According to AT&T site it said to use a code - is this code entered on walmarts side when I upgrade?

So you tried purchasing the h2o eSIM from their website and h2o denied it since they looked up the IMEI and it said it was locked?

I paid off my phone a few mins ago and trying to make an unlock request. It would not let me do it and it says I need to wait for 60 days. What are my options now?

Usually you need to wait longer than that. Check the myatt app, does it show the phone as paid off yet/upgrade eligible? Follow the steps in the community wiki if you have another unlocked iPhone. Otherwise you'll need to move your iPhone to someone else's AT&T line that's been open for >60 days to submit the unlock. Or just keep the service for 60 days per the official procedure before unlocking.

They allowed the purchase, but then couldn't/wouldn't activate the eSim on the phone. Support said it doesn't work because the phone is locked. Should have loaded it on to an unlocked phone and transferred the esim myself ... will try that next.

I have paid off via phone call since MyAtt app does not let me do anything. It is giving me an errror "Sorry, it doesn't look like you have accounts linked to this User ID" even though the new phone number is tied to my user id. I have an unlocked iphone 11 that I am currently using it with my original number (att prepaid) but not sure if it supports esim.

Honestly I wouldn't mess with this since the iPhone isn't paid off. You could get locked on H2O and AT&T site could show it's ineligible since it hasn't been paid in full. Could get stuck with an unlockable phone.

Edit: since you haven't paid it off, you can always return it if this happens Applause

yes the iPhone 11 support eSIM. Since you paid it off, wait at least a few hours, I would say next day is better. Then eSIM transfer to the iPhone 11. Then make some calls, wait 30 minutes. Then submit unlock for new iPhone as non-ATT customer.

I paid it off today. I was thinking of doing the cricket free trial which uses at&t towers ... as I don't know anyone with an esim. But yes maybe not worth the risk. But just to review - I just need the at&t eSim in there to make a phone call, then swap it back out (and use it in another phone). then request the unlock. yes?

This is quoted from the iPhone 13 deal a few weeks back.
When I did this, I left the h2o sim in the new iPhone while I requested the unlock. Once it was unlocked I removed it and put in a different SIM (eSIM/redpocket/gsma) and it showed "No carrier restrictions."

I can confirm the AT&T trick is working with a Verizon phone. It doesn't matter whats going on with your Verizon account. Paid off, not paid off, no account, canceled or not. This is concerning your DEVICE. You should pay the (phone pay off amount) as soon as you can find someone to take payment lol and cancel your line to stop the prorated monthly charges.

1. Under no circumstance, do NOT put the Verizon sim card into the phone unless you want a 60 day lock.
2. Ok let's free our devices. I bought a AT&T prepaid card from walmart [walmart.com] for $10 (also available at Best Buy [bestbuy.com] and Target [target.com]). Other users report success with H2O $1 sim from Target [target.com] or Best Buy [bestbuy.com]. You can also use old inactive ATT sim cards. Do NOT use any T-Mobile sims unless you want your phone locked to their service!
3. First phone boot was with the AT&T card. In settings, about device showed sim locked.
4. Visit https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and click "start an unlock request"
5. Choose no mobile number from AT&T and enter the IMEI from setting, about. Don't enter the IMEI2 which is for your phones esim.
6. Check your email & junk folder to click link from email to "confirm your request". I got email nearly immediately that my unlock was approved.
7. Now reset the phone. I left the AT&T sim in it. Now the phone shows no sim restrictions. Note you might not have to do the reset. I read that just changing the sim should cause the phone to show no sim restriction but I reset mine.
8. Put whatever sim in it you would like.
9. I actually bought a 2nd phone that is still in the mail so I plan to try to reuse the same sim though I'm not sure if it will work.

Thanks. I guess no one has confirmed this with a Verizon Iphone 14 eSim though ...

Right, it locks to first eSIM. So AT&T prepaid would be the safest or AT&T eSIM. Since AT&T system doesn't see any payment plan, it should unlock easily on first request. But nobody has tried this yet with eSIM.

The tricky part was unassigning the Verizon eSIM from your new iPhone, which was removed by Verizon since you cancelled (hence now showing reseller flex policy instead of verizon locked). So from now, it's exactly like the iPhone 13 unlock except using eSIM.
