Hmmm 140W on that 4050.. does this make it comparable to a 4060?

I checked this out in person at BestBuy. It is a very hefty laptop. Probably one of the heaviest there. And very flashy, definitely built for gaming looking. But great cooling which is gonna be best for those of you who try to push their laptops gaming.

I recently pulled the trigger on an Asus Zenbook / Creator Q530 and while it has weaker GPU (3050 6GB) and slower Hz screen... it is way more portable and more vivid and accurate screen for same price. Also has Thunderbolt 4 so gives the option of eGPU down the road for some future proofing (hopefully eGPU cases come down even more)

Tests show that there's little to no performance gain over ~100w for 4050-4070. So, you wouldn't want to pay extra for anything over the 100w, but it doesn't hurt if the deal is good. I don't think I saw a direct comparison, but I was looking for info comparing this 140w 4050 to the 75w 4060 in the Gigabyte G5 from Best Buy and my conclusion was that they will probably perform similarly (except the 4060 would have the advantage in some scenarios with 2GB more RAM). This seems to be a nicer laptop than the G5 though, so I personally opted for this one and have been really happy with it.

Note that power listed is usually with boost, which means that if you are using the CPU, the GPU power limit will be less, usually 25W, or 15W less. So "100W TGP" is too low to get max performance. 120W should be enough, though.

This deal or https://slickdeals.net/f/17066587-acer-nitro-5-gaming-laptop-15-6-fhd-165hz-i7-12650h-rtx-4060-16gb-... ?

You can still order it, even if it is sold out at local BJ's.
It depends. This has a better display (16:10 and higher brightness). The CPUs should be close for most workloads, but this has an advantage in heavily threaded workloads, due to the extra cores, at the expense of higher power consumption. The 4060 in the Nitro is faster, but not by as much as some people would lead you to believe. It's on average about 20% faster, though it can be more depending on the game and settings. So the question is whether you would prefer a better display and multi-threaded CPU performance or better gaming performance.

I got the recent Asus TUF A16 from Best Buy and have been enjoying it, but the USB4 type C port doesn't support power delivery (so stupid). The other type C port does, but of course is severely limited in bandwidth.

The TB4 port here is very attractive to me. This display also seems like it might be slightly superior, due to higher brightness (but the Asus display is solid nonetheless).

The Asus is returnable through January. Thoughts? The Intel CPU has better multi-threaded performance due to e-cores, but overall they're pretty close, so basically it comes down to the 8GB 7600S vs. the 6GB 4050. Gaming is a secondary concern for me, I'm willing to lose a few FPS.

Other considerations: I don't care about the RGB backlit keyboard, I will just set it to one static color, but the Asus is approx. 1 pound lighter. I'm also not a big fan of the Armory Crate software, but overall the Asus seems to have solid build quality. I've never owned an Acer laptop.

trying to decide between this one or the i7-13700HX model that is also on sale.
Dont care much about GPU really.
How does this i5 compare to that i7?
Am I getting that much more performance from the i7 to justify the extra $250?

The i7 not only has the two additional p-cores, but it also has more aggressive boost clocks across all the cores. Notice the significantly higher single-thread score on the i7.

i5: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu....i5-13500HX

i7: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu....HX&id=5238

Some additional thoughts: the i7 machine has a better display, 500-nits brightness and QHD, vs. 400-nits and FHD. The i7 machine also has a 1TB SSD. I know you don't care about the GPU, but the 4060 will also make the laptop more desirable when you go to resell in a few years.

Overall I'd say it's worth the extra money, but if you're on a tight budget, the i5 machine isn't a slouch by any means.
