  • True 3-Chip Projector Design ā€“ Advanced 3LCD technology displays 100% of the RGB color signal for every frame. This allows for an outstanding color gamut while maintaining excellent brightness, without any "rainbowing" or "color brightness" issues some may see with other projector technologies

  • Digital Imaging Processor ā€“ Real-time 12-bit analog-to-digital video processing for smooth tonal transitions, while helping to eliminate banding, blocking and other compression artifacts from the final visual performance. This powerful processor faithfully reproduces the source material the way it was intended to be shown
  • Outstanding Brightness ā€“ Capable of displaying 4K content at an incredible 2,600 lumens for both color and white brightness (3). This not only provides for a wider performance envelope but allows for an exceptional HDR performance
  • Epson UltraBlack Technology ā€“ Epson created a Proprietary Compensation Filter designed to control the polarization of light itself. This allows Epson to suppress any stray light within the signal, producing an outstanding Dynamic Contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1
  • Precision HDR (2) Adjustment ā€“ Real-time HDR curve adjustment allowing for 16-steps of control to fine-tune the HDR performance ā€“ regardless of the content being displayed
  • Extreme Color Gamut ā€“ One of the first commercially available home theater projectors capable of displaying the full three-dimensional DCI-P3 (4) color space. This extreme color performance is 50% wider than typical 1-chip Rec. 709 (5) projectors and allows for a truly professional-level of color accuracy
  • Epson Precision Lens Technology ā€“ Designed for zero light leakage, all Epson Precision Lenses utilize a proprietary 15-element precision glass structure for outstanding image clarity and edge-to-edge focus uniformity

I am in the same boat as you, 3800 dropped to 1499 in Epson Website and the refurbished 3800 is 1299. Still deliberating whether it is worth to pay $200 more for the new projector, but may end paying that as I dont see it dropping any further anytime soon.
Suspect new (and definitely refurbished) it'll drop further when the 3850 is released (or whatever replacement is next, as it's both a 4 yr old projector now and they are presumably going to start putting hdmi 2.1 ports on the lamp projectors soon.) BUT, if you're not good waiting the 1+ yrs this is likely the lowest it's going to drop to new before next black friday (IMHO). I'm honestly also trying to decide how solid my $1k price point is, at the very least I'm hoping to stick to my guns until I've run out of backup 2150 lamps (If only because there's a tiny chance that the even older 5050ub will be updated soon with 2.1 ports resulting in a firesale on the 2.0 version, but then there's the whole $200+ more expensive lamp to consider for my uses.... I'm just never happy, even with imaginary scenarios Wink )

I could be wrong but pretty sure redurbs dont allow for returns of any kind. So if you end up hating it you are stuck.
From the website:
"Note: Epson does not accept returns on refurbished items except if product arrives defective, in which case, we will provide a replacement with the same model or equivalent. Refurbished products may or may not contain the same software package or bundled accessories as new models."

If one simply, "doesn't like" the refurbished projector you've bought you're SOL which is a solid reason to buy new instead of refurbished (from amazon or the like) if you think there's any chance you simply won't like the new (to you) projector (as I believe epson doesn't allow returns for a full refund on new PJs for not satisfied reasons either) . I *think* I've bought 2 refurbished projectors (in the US) and 2 new ones from epson (1 european, 1 US both from the respective amazons) and have yet to not like one (or to have one fail.) So I'm pretty ambivalent on the whole new/refurbished line with the same warranty (oddly enough only the refurbished one comes with a lamp warranty...)

I did order this epson, benq 5550 and Hisense C1.. will be comparing them side by side.

What's the feedback? I returned Hisense C1 as it's not having manual focus.

I ordered one, will probably get it hooked up soon. I'm expecting it to look phenominal based on my 5020 from 10 years ago. Been holding off watching a bunch of my 4K content for this.

Now if I could just finish Black Mesa so I could watch a movie!
