For example I have 20 drives, having them in external housings with 20 power bricks wouldn't ideal.
Instead I have a server running in basement.
Also if you shuck them and put it in proper setup you also have proper cooling.
Drives in these external enclosures often run hot.

This might not have been the drive. Put it back in the case it came in and it fired right up. Has been running a read test for 14+ hours now with zero errors so I'm suspecting it was my PC setup or a bad sata cable that flagged it the first time.
Edit: Can confirm my drive is good. Replaced all my serial cables and drive is running just fine.
So more of us can buy your Costco stock
Is there an "easy" way to shuck these without causing too much damage to the case? Thanks in advance.
Assuming, you want to keep the case for future warranty lol. No way Jose
I'll access a file, do what I need to do, close it. Then a couple minutes later, I'll access another file. Every time, the drive has to wake up, start spinning, and then it will load. This is getting old.

I have shucked Seagate drives and put them back in the case to RMA them back to Seagate. Everything went just fine. Case wasn't perfect because most of the clips were broken, but it went back together well enough.
If you are in the USA, there are laws against voiding warranties for disassembly as long as the product wasn't damaged by the consumer. The company has to prove the consumer damaged the product. Probably in a grey area with shucked drives, but the raw drive inside is undamaged.
I've heard WD will honor shucked drive replacements without the case, but I haven't heard that from Seagate. Just throw the drive back in the case and avoid any issues.

Install the Seagate Dashboard application.

This application has a setting that keeps the drive awake. It works.
Only a few left in stock and only that one store so YMMV.
