This is how it starts. $300 udm here, $150 access point there, signal kinda weak across the house, another $150 wouldn't hurt it's been a while.

The you end up with a $600+ router

Don't often see deals from Ubiquiti's official store, so wanted to make sure SD didn't miss out.

Love my UDM-Pro, two years no problems.

Nah, you just gotta have restraint. I only have a $500 router

Well this changes things.

Was originally planning on getting a UDM SE. But now I could do a UDM Pro and grab an enterprise 8 POE for a net cost of $259 more than just the SE.

And then have 8 full POE+ ports (vs 2 on the SE) and have 2.5gb as well. 2,000sqft single floor. Will have 10gb fiber internet. Would allow me to take advantage of the 2.5gb uplink on the AP (either now, or in the future)

What would you do? Stick with SE and U6 Pros now and upgrade to 2.5gb switch and 2.5gb APs down the road?
Fair warning, the Pro and Pro SE have different software development pipelines and the pro was ignored for a long time. SE would get features 1+ years before the regular pro. It only recently improved, but no telling if the slide back into that stance of ignoring the plain Pro.

Same with me. USG is rock solid and debating if I should upgrade. Unifi sales are as rare as they come.

Yes, many many years ago. Google for "ATT fiber bypass".

Its not for the faint of heart, must be good with ssh and linux commands, and you have to hack certs out of your BGW. And since they removed containers in unifi OS there's no great way to do it that survives firmware updates.
So it sounds like it's not very reliable at the moment. I just switched to Fiber a couple months ago so thanks! I think I'll skip that process.

I'm still running a USG since 2015. Around 2020 I had to replace the USB memory stick in it. Debating if I should upgrade now. Eventually I need to upgrade my APs to 6 or 6E once prices drop or a deal comes up.

My system has been solid since 2015. Shortly after I first installed it, I forgot my password--this was before they had a forgot password function. Since I had no issues with the system, I never bothered to reset it for 5yrs (2020) until the little USG started giving me issues. Wasn't really the best time for having issues with everyone working from home in 2020.

Troubleshooting led me to replacing the USB memory stick within it and with that, I finally decided to reset the entire system since I didn't know my password. Did all the updates, installed a cloud key, created a new account, and again solid since then.

Last year, I installed a TP-Link Deco WiFi6 system at my sister's house and it has been solid for them for a year now. If I had access to simple mesh systems like that back in 2015, I probably wouldn't have this system. But now that I'm in it, it's going to be very difficult to leave Unifi after knowing the full capabilities and features afforded to the end user.
They just released the uxg lite as the replacement for usg. It's for $129, still quite cheaper than this UDM pro. If you have USG then you are already using something for hosting your controller. If you are using cloud key for that then it's best to go with UDM pro because with UDM pro you can replace your USG and whatever you're using for controller. Now if your controller cost is not much then it's best just get uxg lite. It was out of stock but they'll restock it eventually.

Is your router stable? Do you have a good connection with all your devices? If the answer is yes, keep what you got. I dipped my toes into this mess a few weeks ago and now I've spent close to $1,000 in networking gear. It's great stuff, but sometimes I think I should have just held on to my Alien router and been done with it.

What benefits would I get from a dream machine pro vs my current Edge Router X? I have 800 down / 400 up service from my ISP. Also currently using two AC-Lites.
Edgerouter X has EdgeOS while the Dream machine uses Unifi. DM Pro has 2 SFP ports if you wanted to add a fiber or other network interface, 8 GbE ports, and a NVR/HDD bay so it can record CCTV if you add cameras. FYI the Pro has no POE ports while the SE has 2 POE+ and 6 POE ports.

Thanks OP the post. I've been wanting to upgrade to the UDM-Pro for years! Even used on eBay, I've never seen one under $300.

This is a pretty awesome site https://evanmccann.net/blog/ubiqu...son-charts

Also need a couple of PoE injectors to power the APs

Deco are on sale right now. They are really incredible and rock solid. If you get the m5 they include intrusion and network protection for life. How good is it? We'll.. Not sure, haha.

You won't get much benefit from upgrading to 6 unless you happen to have all of your devices on 6. Even then, I don't really see the benefit.

If it's only for internet, 6 will let you go faster, but it's like buying a car that goes 100mph and now you have one that goes 250mph. But when do you even go 100mph?

4k streaming is only 5Mbits a second. Wifi 6 handles more connections at the same time, but unless you have a crap load of IOTs, that won't justify the upgrade either.

Im not saying what to do, but you may think you need an upgrade when in fact you prob3wont benefit from it.

The 6 lite's work better now after the firmware upgrade it doubled the throughput on my garage AP from previous.. but didnt quite reach full line speed when I had 950MBit service.. (who cares though?)

I've been pretty happy with my UDM PRO setup.
The fact that it captures the wifi AP's on all the cars driving in front of my house is pretty funny too.

Aw man, my entire home network is Ubiquti equipped. I am tempted to get the Dream Wall, but that would leave me having to find a buyer for my UDM and Lite 16 PoE switch. Really no sense, but I want... Must resist.

** Shipping does not make this a slickdeal. Considering you can get this at a MicroCenter sans shipping costs.
